Beautiful subject but indeed still a mystery to most people. Daniel 7 gives a great explanation of the son of man. You can read there that the son of man is given eternal dominion and a few verses further you read that the saints are the sons of man. I totally understand your question. It is not an easy subject. The tricky thing is not to think about the outside of man. After all, it is not about the fact that Adam and Evan had no clothes on their bodies. It is about how they saw themselves. The natural is used so that we might understand the spiritual. God had made Adam in His own image. All the attributes of God were IN Adam. But earthly, carnal wisdom tells us that they were not and that we must work hard to achieve that. By eating of this knowledge Adam began to look at himself and saw not the inside but the outside. He saw what he did and what he thought he should do but he no longer saw who he was. This is being naked. Therefore, there are 2 different words used in Hebrew for the word naked in Genesis 2:25 and 3:7. They both derive from the same root word but they refer to the inside and the outside. The 2 trees in the garden of Eden are both a knowledge. One the knowledge of good and evil; doing to become, the other the knowledge of God and sonship; being. Jesus therefore says to the Pharisees: Woe to you experts in the law! For you have taken away the key to knowledge (Luke 11:52). He calls them ‘experts in the law’, which means they were experts in ‘doing to become’. And by teaching this they have taken away the key to the knowledge of who we ARE. So the Pharisees also looked on the outward appearance and not on their insides. They looked at their behavior instead of their identity. They wanted to change their identity through their behavior instead of changing their behavior through their identity. That's why Jesus says in that same Bible text: Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish,f so that the outside may become clean as well (Matt 23:26). We are changed by the renewing of our mind. We are changed by being clothed with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. Hope this helps… Thank you for the honest question.
