I like the basic construction of the dress, but the off center thing does drive me nuts if I were to wear it. I personally on myself would rather the sleeves be both up on the shoulders, but not hanging so low as to cover the whole arm. But I also like more traditional dresses. I'm just boring and not that daring I guess. 😆

😊 you are going to know if this works in muslin. I always make a Muslin for fitting and solve all the problems with too long of a waist or two small of a bust in fabric that costs about $2 a yard. You can make the muslin over several times without ever touching the silk. So just have fun with it. The sleeves are very exaggerated and remind me of a Nicole Miller pattern I had in the 80s and probably still have. It's going to be great.

I also relate to your sewing vicissitudes... just finished a wrap dress that didn't work out and I tossed it in a corner in the attic. That happens to all of us. And yeah, arms are looking great! You could always use the historical way of holding out sleeves using internal supports.

That is going to be so gorgeous! That silk will be better than the inspiration piece. Are you adding any length to it? And what kind of foundation garment would you wear with it?

Always sneaky how the feelings of loss can come up. I was sweating and crying while mowing this past weekend. Love is worth it. When you analyzed the RTW dress, did it have an internal boned corset? I’d be looking at adding support for that back bow/train and the sleeve shield so they don’t pull. Used to do this with power net and 1/2” twill tape…long ago. Hope to see your modern methods!

Hello Toni!!!!!!!! Oh you broke my heart this morning reminiscing about your dear father. He looked like such a wonderful man (he must've been so because he helped make you the awesome daughter you are!!!!!) and brought back memories of my parents who both passed in a week of each other in 2011. The pain is indescribable. But I can tell you after years I focus on the good memories. Only time going by helps. Did you cut the dress yet? I have a couple ideas so I will sketch out and email you my ideas. You are absolutely on the right track- get a simple sheath and minimally adapt for the dress foundation. The angelic wing sleeve look should be drafted in muslin 1st!!!! Yes you will need horsehair to stiffen the top edge and maybe crinoline to line the rest of the overlay to keep the firm shape. Gorgeous inspiration dress and your fabric options are beautiful. I wouldn’t punch fear in the face, because it gave you a nice “plan b” IF you want it. You won’t need to use that second plan though, but since you have it in your back pocket, NOW you can focus on your vision dress. It’ll all turn out. Thanks for sharing.
