One day, I noticed there was a broken egg shell at the door. I also noticed there were red stickers all over the house. And even an ox sticker at the pantry. Why do my in-laws do these? Today, I asked my Singaporean mother in law and found out why. Very interesting indeed! I didn't know I was surrounded by prosperity every day!

The eggshell thing is so interesting! I actually googled it and found out that it's true, eggshells keep out cockroaches and lizards~ Anyway, I can never look at the Laughing Cow cheese spread the same way after hearing what your mother-in-law had said. Honestly, that part about the Laughing Cow really cracked me up. xDD Still, your mother-in-law's so adorable.

^ 100% *NOT* true. nothing on *Google* that verifies or substantiates this, outside of 1 or 2 random websites, that anyone could've created, & didn't provide any proof. all the websites that talk about *_"natural way to repel cockroaches"_* are inaccurate - there's no magical thing out there that *_"smelsl bad to the cockroach"_* & repels them. cockroaches are attracted to anything & EVERYTHING b/c they EAT anything & EVERYTHING; thus, they'll be attracted to the eggshells. the only 100% effective way to get rid of them is w/ chemical sprays/pesticides; or if you prefer a more "natural" way, using salt based powders that contain *boric acid* . throw it on the floor, in the corners, & in dark/damp locations where they might hide. cockroaches will eat it (again, b/c they eat EVERYTHING), & they'll die.

My father was told by his late grandmother from Lam Ann County of Hokkien Province, that they should not to eat beef out of gratitude because people depend on them to plough the farms in olden days. My entire family do not consume beef at all, this is quite common among Chinese folk religionists and Taoists.

Lizards will generally keep away from broken eggs because it signifies the presence of bigger predators like snakes. However, this only works if the eggs shells are freshly broken. If you leave them there for a long time, they become aware that the danger is no longer there. On the other hand, eggs attract predators like snakes and I”m not a fan of that so I don’t do this although I really want to keep lizards away too.
