That guy with the Simpsons shirt doesn’t seem to care about his students’ criticisms. But you know he does because he is defensive and he knows they are true. Every criticism is the same and follows a pattern - he is just too arrogant to change and lazy.

Says the guy who has been spitting insults at his student for being guilty of criticizing him. I’m sure your poor mother disavowed you long ago.

@Michael Strangelove do you have tenure?
@soldav4830

The reason I ask, is I have had a couple professors that could be described the same way as your "Rate my prof" critiques. I Always wanted to ask them who gave them the right to act like that. But my grade would have suffered because thats the world we live in, decisions made based on hurt feelings. I know a lot professors who have tenure think of themselves as gods gift to higher education. I truly want to know...did you just wake up one morning and decide you are better than everyone else. Obviously you don't take critisism, constructive or otherwise, well. That very well could be because most teachers have no experience in the real world. They go to school k-12, then to college (school) and then on to teaching (school). Whole life spent in a bubble. Who knows, maybe the students that wrote the reviews are the worthless, safe space snowflakes that are ruining our country, then again maybe not. What I do know, is that your reaction to the complaints was about the same as a spoiled child. Instead of being defensive and dismissive, why not actually take this time to self reflect. Being an eccentric jerk is not a requirement for the job. Nor is being so set in your ways that change isn't possible. We can all reinvent ourselves at anytime. If you truly are the professor they say you are, then you must be very unhappy. And to the rest of us in the real world, your power means fuck-all. So instead of making these kid's lives suck...why not consider the fact they are paying an exorbitant amount of money for a piece of paper that is wholly unnecessary, for the most part. Them going into debt to listen to a basic, unhappy middle aged man on a power trip, seems pretty pointless. It doesn't have to be like that. Try something new next semester, you might surprise yourself. We only get one shot at this, and why spend it making everyone uncomfortable. *Mind you, these are things I wanted to say to the jerkoffs that taught at my University. Hopefully you're not as bad*

@Colin Deal Could all be true, but the comments Strangelove received were all the same and his reactions to them prove that they are correct.

Simpsons shirt guy seems like a narcissistic defensive jerk. Hope I never have to meet him. Everyone keeps telling him he goes off on random rants and instead of taking it to heart and staying on subject he just denies and rejects the notion he could be doing something wrong.

I got an A professor and I wrote it in a comment on part 2. But hey, I didn’t expect any less from your kind. You assume that any criticism is baseless, insincere and of bad faith. Because God forbid people genuinely criticizing you. After all you are perfect, no?

People often don't realise that research intensive university like UOttawa, professor promotion and compensation is largely based on their research productivity and not class evaluation. The professor who is speaking slowly is actually making a lot of sense, I would not be surprised if he publishes in top journals. I can't believe a few people are mocking his speech pattern.

anyone who calls their students idiots shouldn't be a teacher. if it's the students attitudes that need adjusting, and the teacher truly didn't deserve that comment, then calling the person an idiot isn't going to adjust that. insults don't encourage learning.

This was great! Hope to see more profs reading one comment rather than the same few profs reading a few comments. Do like Jimmy Kimmel does it with mean tweets! David Gray is a hero.

While the idea was inspired by Jimmy Kimmel's "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" we didn't want to full out copy their idea, and we also wanted to let the professors reply to some kind commentary. We're hoping to make more installments with different professors each time :)

If only some professors would spend as long a time learning how to teach, and how to have humility as they spent on their post-docs.... universities would be much more effective and enjoyable. Flip-side: I also wish that unmotivated students, students who only wish to take easy courses, students who have the mindset of only gaining credits rather than learning a new topic in-depth, wouldnt be allowed to study at universities.
