Up close with the Spruceglen, then I stumble upon the John G. Munson

As I've said many times, I am amazed at the skills that Argo has to find these ships! I was distracted by being up close with the Spruceglen, not aware that Argo had found us the John G. Munson as well!
We follow this up by stopping to check out the flowers...

I don't know how you can function without that morning coffee... I can't! Excellent shot of Argo sitting in the middle of the road with that look of "yeah, I just found that ship behind me!" Your right, that ship looks so huge being that close to it. Looks like its going right down the middle of the street! Some horns are very recognizable on these ships! Good job Argo! The whit and purple flowers are Ires.

Well, as you can see, I often don't function well before coffee! I do love that shot, looking down the street as a ship enters/leaves the Mac lock. They just look so big, it's impressive! Thank you for the flower ID!

Nice deduction on the John G. You can tell it was part of the Great Lakes Fleet immediately by the silver and black exhaust stack. And once you can see the front unloader it's verified. The only other front unloaders belong to Lower Lakes, and the Saginaw is the only one still working since the Cuyahoga caught fire. Good catch on the two ships.

I didn't think the stack looked quite right for the Anderson but I wasn't sure until I heard the horn, then saw the front unloader. They are rare, that is for sure! I think it's cool that the new Mark W. Barker was built as a front unloader, makes her more unique!

@codyandargo906 You're right, Cody. I had forgotten Baby Barker is outfitted with a front unloader. Her design to be able to carry such versatile cargo will probably be the template for a lot of ships in the future.

You're getting pretty good at ship ID. A few more years and you'll be able to identify them by their 'feel' as they go by. The Soo is the most rustic town I've ever lived in, kind of amazing for a city over 350 years old.

lol, I can already identify a few by 'feel'.. well by sound as well I guess. The Vanenkevort tug/barges have a certain droning sound which makes them easy to figure out. Now figuring out WHICH one of them, now that is not so easy :) I do agree, the Soo is very rustic feeling. That small town vibe, even more so than the small town I moved from!

Nah, not like mosquitoes at all. I kind of like seeing all of the different license plates. I've even seen one other Oregon plate!
