UP FEF Lionel Northerns: Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club

Two Lionel UP northerns are called for duty at the Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club in New Lenox, IL. You’ll also see other rail traffic including a sharp military train hauled by a another locomotive in the UP steam fleet out at the club. Enjoy and thank you for watching The Steam Channel.

The inside track engine is 838 from 2016, the outside track engine is 844 from 2007. Both engines and the cars they’re pulling are mine. I’m a member at this club.

Thanks. Both of those FEF-3 locomotives are mine along with the passenger cars they were pulling. Since that video i’ve added an additional 11 cars onto my UP passenger train.

I have no idea how much the track was since it’s the club layout. A few of the cars i’ve bought off ebay but the rest along with both engines i bought brand new from my local hobby shop. I don’t know the exact total but i know i have a lot of $$$ invested in my UP passenger train.

Cool, it took me a good while to get all those cars plus all the big UP steam that i have. Currently the excursion train is sitting at 26 cars. I’m looking to make it at least a solid 30 car train. I have every engine from the UP steam fleet except the 2-10-2 #5511 but that’s because no one makes one in O scale. I wish they did because that would definitely be on the purchase list.

No that’s ross track and switches. I was the guy running the UP 838 in the video. Both the UP 838 and UP 844 and all the passenger cars they pulled are mine. I was a member of that club until this year when i decided not to renew my membership. Personally i think ross track and switches are crap, we had nothing but problems with the ross switches to the point that we set them to where we wanted them and shut the switches off entirely.

For o scale, it's the standard here in the USA. Reason why is in the 1900, they didn't have access to relays and other electronic things that would make Reversing loop possible on 2 railed track. So lionel added a 3rd rail, and it became tha standard... Today it can't really change because of the sheer amount of 3 rail track still out there. They say you could build a model railroad to the moon and back over 10,000 times with the amount of o gauge track still in use and circulation.
