I'm a 1st year apprentice commercial plumber from Australia and want to know if UPC is relevant to us Australians or is it the IPC

I believe Australia uses the NCC Vol 3. Don't quote me on that however. All municipalities use differing regulations specific to their needs. Editions like the UPC serve as a beginning template for these.

you answered my question without even asking. Study Chapters 1-12 mainly. I was concerned about taking my Plumbing exam having little to know knowledge of fire sprinklers, med gas, catchment system etc. I do 90% residential and would rarely encounter the need for these. By studying the UPC doesn't it cover what you need to know to pass the California Plumber's Exam? Do you recommend any additional Reading? would the Mechanical Code also be need to pass the exam?

Which exam are you taking, or in other words which apprenticeship?

@@BGsPlumbingClass I Just sent out my Application for an Additional Classification C-36.

@@jmac213stuff Going for the contractor's exam will be more challenging for you on the business side as opposed to the plumbing side. The knowledge base of worker's comp law and bonding and all that stuff is what throws most people. I can say that the trade portion of the exam deals primarily with chapters 1-12 and be sure to look into Title 24

@@BGsPlumbingClass I guess it's my Lucky day, I have already passed that for my B-License, and would not be required to retake that part due to my active license. But my plans are to finish up my quest for my C-36 & C10, then possibly following up with a C20, Just because I like the mechanical trades. I also want to learn about boilers and hydronics, but don't have a clue yet on pursuing that information. Thanks fir repling.

@@jmac213stuff You should have little challenge then in passing the C-36! Are you certified to handle refrigerant for the C-20?

Hello sir, I'm a new apprentice in Michigan, I currently have the IPC 2012 book with commentary, is the information in this series relevant to my code book?

Yes. But not entirely. There are differences between the codes, but for the most part we are the same. Some differences are quite severe however. As an example, our method of sizing water is easier, but yours is far more detailed- which I tend to agree with.

It would be beneficial of you to study both actually. It will broaden your knowledge and should you ever relocate to a "UPC friendly zone", it'll be a smooth transition.
