I upgraded from Bazzite 2.5 based on Fedora 39 to Bazzite 3.0 based on Fedora 40 with no issues at all. And this is the Nvidia version on a hybrid Nvidia-AMD laptop.

Oddly enough, the only distro I've had problems with KDE Plasma 6 was on KDE Neon, and let's be honest, that distro is not meant for daily driving; it's more of a development platform. The only issue I had with it on Arch was once the upgrade was finished, I had to use the command-line to reboot; similar to KDE Neon, the power off options in the menu did nothing, but did work properly after a reboot.

I updated all 4 of my machines to F40 + KDE Plasma6 and it just seems so much faster bootup/shutdown. Didnt have any problems, but I completely broke sound a couple of months back. Sorry for your trouble but learning so much right now.

I didn't get the notification of Fedora 40 or the button to be able to update it until a few days after it released. I impatiently attempted to follow the instructions on their site to use DNF to do a manual update to 40, but I kept running into errors (I believe regarding repositories, dependencies, etc.) so I just gave up. So I waited, and a couple days later I did the usual system update with the GUI, rebooted, and then received the message with a button for update. Clicked it, it mentioned a series of changes (many of which dnf gave me errors previously regarding dependencies or something). Clicked okay. It started downloading, rebooted and installed. Rebooted successfully into the new version. I was actually surprised at how flawless the upgrade was--I would normally perform upgrades by wiping / and reinstalling with the latest installation disc. I was thinking that because I was using the KDE version instead of the standard GNOME "Workstation" version that it probably wouldn't update at all.

I figured out how to build my own Bazzite image. Forked the official repo, changed the rpm packages and flatpaks I wanted installed and had to change the github action to rclone to my server. I was thinking of doing the same to Aurora.

Fedora 40 (updating from 39) was a nightmare for me. I was so tempted to zapp the hard drive and start from fresh. Took half a day of messing around to get it stable.

Dude. If you blame someone then please do some research. Plasma 6 isn't forcing Wayland. All it does is switch to it by default - what the hell else was it supposed to do, X11 is going bye bye eventually and only by switching the default will you find issues that need to be fixed when X11 eventually goes. It was the choice of Fedora to switch to Wayland only, prematurely at that, as it is known to do.

An update Broke Arch, it get stuck on boot with no keyboard/mouse like the USB ports aren't initializing (led lights not coming on being the indicator), good thing it saves backups, I loaded one of those and it came back.

I tryed to install this on a laptop. It decided some place a long the way to show everything in portrait mode for the deslpay. made it tuff to install. It did not find the Wi-FI. I gave up and used Nobara. It worked fine.

Windows does auto update the bios too. Even on new hp laptops from my experience.

I always do a clean install with a major release, but understand that some people cant, or dont prefer to. But no issues on my ROG Ally with v40.

installed plasma 6 but it kept breaking each login. keyboard didnt wanna work and then if i clicked the mouse too fast it broke the xcursor for xorg apps. its kind of dissapointing.

I use Better Snap Tool in Mac but I do agree Windows 11 tiling has got a lot better.

KDE 6 is what drove me to Debian from being a Daily Driver Arch user for 2 years now. It'll improve over time, but for now I'll stick with Plasma 5 to get work done.

Chris, about 10 years ago, I had a notice to update my HP BIOS. Note: I had my family genealogy on my old HP computer with over 16,000 family members on our tree. I performed the update. When the system updated and tried to restart, my files on my hard drive and, unfortunately, my connected external backup drive, were gone! I lost 25 years of research. I had to restore Windows and install all of my applications and whatever family files that I had on DVDs. I could only imagine that some disgruntled employee infected the BIOS files. I suspect that person is no longer employed by HP. These days, I backup to my external hard drive and on one or more flash drives.

Chris, try Slackware current. It works like a rolling distro, but much more stable

Tbf, Windows Update also updates UEFI ("BIOS") on supported systems these days.

I have not had a single successful Plasma 5 to 6 upgrade - had to do a fresh install every time, including on Arch. After the fresh install everything went fine, but there doesn't seem to be a successful upgrade path so far.

OpenSuse kalpa still defaults to x11. Would have been great if bazzite uses OpenSuse kalpa as the base instead of fedora kiniote.

Still pretty sure the issue is synergy - both they and barrier don't support wayland. It's about the only thing stopping me changing my playbox VM over to a KDE 6 distro.

I've used my full on gaming rig in the living room on my tv like a "console" with windows... which everyone knows sucks (keyboard / mouse) on couch Tested bazzite hoping I could use it like a real convenient console with the gaming mode (gamescope) but it just seem to work in desktop mode. Does gamescope / gaming mode only work on a handheld? Does anyone know? Tested bazzite stable... bazzite deck stable... and hints most welcome

I'll be using Zorin Core 16 until 4/25, then be forced to upgrade to 17. Works perfectly on all my old biz desktops. Even Wayland. I stayed with Chrome, use Google Docs and Pinta for photo editing. I am not a Linux nerd so have few problems.

I have 4 PCs (2 Desktops, 2 laptops) of various specs ranging within the decade from 2006 all the way up to 2023 hardware-wise and KDE on Arch has never had an single issue so far, somehow, how am i this lucky, no idea.

I don't know why they made wayland the default for plasma 6 when window shading doesn't even work on plasma wayland, that bug was reported 7 years ago and they still haven't fixed it, but I guess that's kde for you, they're more focused on adding features than fixing bugs.

Plasma 6 doesn't force wayland, that's a Fedora decision. KDE just made waylaed the default (and distros can choose to change that if they want). Remember, Fedora is basically a bleeding edge distro, you git the new tech stacks fast and they well deprecate the old ones fast. Also I've been running plasma 6 on wayland since day 1 and it's been as stable as 5.27 (and more stable than on 5.27 on x11 was funny enough).

Honestly, without reading anything of how bazzite works on fedora and having it installed, I don't think the "distro" means anything. If you have an imagination, and understand how and what linux does best, virtualization. You quickly realize . The distro doesn't matter. You can also go into per app settings and allow what ever app, full on 0777 if you want. Without ever having to touch `setenforce`

I'm surprised KDE itself doesn't clear the cache on updates. But even worse is the BIOS auto update. It was already bad that Windows does it on laptops and on battery, now Linux distros just randomly doing it...

from what I know NVK don't work for maxwell-based and pascal GPUs GeForce 800M, 900M, 900 ,1000 , MX 100,MX 200, and 750 no idea how nouveau do with these GPU nowadays.

right now meta+P is broken on Xorg and maybe wayland too. I dislike this issue so much.

In a nutshell NVK can run DX9/10 games with playable performance, DX11 with bad performance, and DX12 not at all. NVK + Zink is significantly better than the old Nouveau OpenGL. Don't try to use it on anything older than a 16/20 series card.

You can break NixOS. I've done it before. You just have to use the unstable channel lol (and apparently switch between multiple desktop environments without running the garbage collector in between). TBH, I don't understand why NixOS has an unstable channel or what is actually unstable about it. Oh I should mention I switched to the unstable channel to update to KDE 6 on NixOS and it broke Grub or something because trying to switch to an iteration that had cinnamon installed made it upset just as much as trying to boot into KDE 6

If it's any consolation... I was laughing at your update misfortune, while updating Ubuntu 20.04 LTS server, fully supported for another year. When it killed my LXD from making a socket connection. Something about a cgroup / cgroup2 issue. LXD with ZFS being this servers only function. LXD installed via Snap as well. I suspect a breaking change to the kernel slipped through. Attempted a previous kernel at grub2 boot only for it to still fail. Ended up upgrading the release to 22.04 and then everything started working. Nothing weird, all Ubuntu all the time. I didn't have time to debug the root cause. Considering redoing this server with NixOS as Ubuntu w/LXD have let me down. Guess their takeover of LXD and the loss of some top tier talent has resulted in breaking changes.

xorg and wayland both have their issues for me, xorg is slower and doesn't have per-display fractional scaling, and wayland is buggy and doesn't play nice with nvidia

I reinstalled fedora39, fedora40 with KDE plasma6 just isn't ready, buggy isn't the word for this shit show, ill give it 6 months and hope when 41 releases that they fix the issues.

Auto BIOS update seems a common OEM thing. Bought a few HP mini PCs recently and Windows 10 also just downloaded UEFI and installed updates for the things. I guess with the amount of silicon level and BIOS level security issues we have recently, it is the thing to do, especially in the corporate space.

Gotta watch broadie, he covered that fedora 40 switch to Wayland only extensively. That affirmed my decision to stay with Arch. Don't misunderstand me, I love Wayland, and I use Wayland on Arch, but making Wayland the only realistic option SO shortly after switching to it primarily... Not my thing. With Arch you may sometimes be bleeding when it comes to updates, but when it comes to system component changes they don't force it down your throat if you're not ready. Your pain just increases slowly until you do, with Fedora they go from tickling your foot straight to cutting it off. So yeah. Arch for stability 😇🤦
