I would love to have a universal updater/uninstaller. It kinda stinks, when some programs are only available as Appimage, or when I need to get the Flatpak or Snap for something, or even when it is just a PWA I installed. In cases like that, if I don't remember which it was, I have to search all the places to update/uninstall it...

For years I didn't like Debian, just because I thought it was ugly and slow. Now I use only Debian because I think it's minimalist and efficient. What a donkey I am. 🤣

Tried several distros when trying to move away from Windows 11 when it was released. Tried Ubuntu, PopOS!, Arch, Kubuntu, and Mint before finally settling on Fedora. It seemed to have the packages I was looking for with a relatively easy setup, had recent updates in their repositories, and was very stable. May fire up Debian in a VM and give that a spin, though, just to have a backup in case RH does something stupid to Fedora.

Good to see you're having fun at it! One feature I'd love to see, (and it would be extensive I'm sure) is an application or feature that could "check" basic Linux set up's and identify things that are out of place as well as the ability to isolate & delete them. An example would be ClamTK. It's no longer supported but I've had intruders alter it so identified virus's, etc. are not deleted or isolated making the program useless. It's a great program when it works .... if it works ..... Thanks again for listening!

I was gone from the 16th through the 21st, so I didn't really get to check out any of your streams. Gonna watch this and Day 2 and see how you do. I did a Rust course through THM Academy and found it quite an interesting language to learn. Seeing someone else learn it might solidify some parts of it for me.

I know this is an old Video . it is pretty hard to go from windows to Linux the biggest thing for everyday use that I have is is say I have to send a document to my employer be it a pdf file of not is tha tmost companies do not support of formats for documents . Also the driver issues for things like some printers used to be a huge hassle and if you are not comfortable with typing out things in command ( I dont remember the proper name for on Linux ) or you're like myself with fumble fingers adding in spaces otr hitting two letters on the keyboard it can be very frustrating then when you ask for help at some of the Linux forums you can and most run int ioass hats that puty you down more than actualy help the newbie like myself it is discouraging . I remember yrs back when I gave my mother her first laptop I installed Linux mint on it and she l;oved it when my sister would come over she would get frustrated because she couldnt figure out how to do some things and of course my mother being new to the PC world also didnt know , after a few years I gave her a new laptop which had windows already installed o nit and it took my mother a long tome to learn how to use it , but she learned and now I really dont want her to go back to Linux because she just web browsers email facebook things . that said now with the new windows copilot being added to windows11 I may dual boot her laptop so she can slowly relearn Linux very basics. as for myself, I may do the same for my gaming PC and also my main Media PC and slowly move to Linux on my Media main PC and laptops

For example, installing Steam as flatpak means you can only install games to the same directory where steam is installed, whilst installing as snap makes Stean automatically detect other drives. Sure you can fiddle with permissions and such, but it's super annoying. There should be configurable default permission levels for flatpak so that apps like Steam can install with access to other drives by default.

Figured would give Debian another shot as I do with Linux every 5 years or so. Spent a day installing things and tweaking it. DisplayPort monitor wasn't working though so followed the official Debian guide to install NVIDIA drivers... Paths written there don't exist, the guide is wrong and now the OS is bricked. For some reason, all screens work for login then all disappear (with secureboot disabled because like most things with linux there is an entire backlog of information and acronyms you need to somehow onboard before you can do even basic config). Disappointing that it's still so jank for such a mainstream release and lacking in documentation on an issue that surely a lot of people would face. I'm technically inclined and the learning curve is still too steep, simply because I can't take that amount of screen-time right now to get through it all to the point where it's intuitive. I did make a snap-shot but probably won't bother to restore it (would still have a monitor that I can't use so it's a deal-breaker). I'll give it one more shot with Nobara, failing that several more years to mature some more... 😤

The TIOBE Index should definitely not be trusted. They calculate based on: "the number of search engine results for queries containing the name of the language", which is an insane way to evaluate a programming language.. Even Prime made a video on it a while back

Java and Javascript will always be pure garbage, i have a persona hate for Java because essential if you are insane about things running well, it basically forces you to run checks to catch exceptions in basically every line you write simply because of how easy it is to throw an error.

I like QT for GUI. QT is underrated.
@maxpoulin644 күн бұрын
Qt is good but pretty much C++ only and using it in Rust leads to FFI hell and memory management clashes. For Rust, it's usually Iced (what COSMIC uses) or GTK since mapping C functions to Rust is much easier to abstract. Then there's egui which is more like Dear ImGUI which is more appropriate for use in games or other constantly updating UIs.

13:35 Instead of using the distro to determine the package manager, wouldn't it make more sense to just test for the existence of the package manager? Smells kind of like looking at browser user agents instead of doing feature detection. But I don't really do much scripting, might be the wrong way to approach it.

I started with Slackware 27 years ago (1997). Went through Red Hat, up to original 6.2 , SuSE up till SuSE (Not SLES) 8. I then switched to Debian for MANY years, along with using WindowMaker (I so miss WindowMaker some days), Linux Mint (I switched away due to a problem with locking screens when you have 2 different sized and resolutioned screens), and now I am on Pop_OS. Servers I started running Debian for about 14 years professionally then at my new job we ran Red Hat (Satellite was too expensive) and when pricing became unattenable about 2 years ago we switched the business to SLES and SuSE Manager.
