Reversing loops are a wonderful addition to any layout and a requirement to my layouts. It helps break up the the going around in circles and more importantly gives you the impression that the train went some where and then came back. Looks like he could put a yard on the first table without the mountain and river, but I think you mentioned he wants a town in there.
