Hi Folks! In this video we circle back to our Mazzei fertigation injector. We have made some modifications replacing a pressure reducer with a ball valve to get better control under varying water pressures. In addition we show you how we are using Grass JLF through the Mazzei as a soil drench fertilization for our scented geraniums. Join us as we walk you through this update.

This video helped me fix my injector system. I was able to see your working setup and realized I was messing with the wrong ball valve. My system sucks now!😆

At a Autobody supply place, paint store get the v shaped filters, they are my last filter before bottling or putting in the solution mix, cheap, even washable a few times. When you add seversl SS washers on end of hose next to filter, they stay on bucket, easy to clean, safe too.

I plan on doing this similar set up! I just started my L.A.B., successful on the 3rd try! Now ready to make more! Many more additions to come. 2022 the year of the Farmer/Florist! I have seen some farmers with no compost after 2 years of growing! What a Waste. 1st year and going strong! I don't think I know how long you guys have been farming!?

Just before 3 min, you mention having determined a 1:200 ratio. How were able to make that determination?

The mazzei model I use dilutes at a 1:55 ratio at wide open flow rate. I then calculated that to achieve a target of 1:200 I would need to dilute the solution in the intake bucket 1:3.6. calculated as 200/55 which approximates 1 liter JMS/JLF per gallon of water. So I added 3 liters per 3 gallon bucket. Which yields approximately a 1:210 application rate.

I made two of these for my raised beds. I have them attached to digital hose timer. They both seem to siphon water from my bucket but when the water turned off the water flows out of the siphons tube. I dont have the 2 ball valves on the sides is that necessary? Also do you keep your water on? To be clear my set up is in this order from the water source: Anti siphon valve Venturi loop Drip filter Drip timer

The back spihon problem can happen when the injector doesn't have the small backflow preventer attached to the siphon port of the mazzei injector. I think older models of the product didn't have this or in some cases the products made by Mazzei's competitors may not have this. Check this link: mazzei.net/products/venturi-injectors/ this shows the part I'm referring to. The ball valves are used to cut the system off so I can remove the injector if it needs to be cleaned. Our system at this point is mobile so we only pressure up the system when we are using it.

Do you keep a small amount of water flowing through the main pipe whilst running the injector or shut it off so that water only flows through the injector section.

Thanks for a very informative video. I make my own Jadam Fertilizer. I use mostly comfrey, some seedum, sea salt and leaf mold from the bottom of a close by mountain. Two years ago I almost filled up a 32 gallon, black trash can and topped it off with water. Currently, I use a 1:10 ratio with my watering cans. I have an idea to use it along with a drip irrigation system. My concern is that the comfrey tea will clog up the drip tape system even if I use paint bucket filters to strain the tea. Has anyone been using strained comfrey tea in their drip irrigation system without clogging it up?

you can get a 400 micron size filter bag from amazon for compost teas. 400 is the smallest "holes" you want to go with because you want to filter out the bigger particulates, but let all the good biology (bacteria, fungi, etc.) to flow through. The microbiology are too small to really clog your drip system. I learned this from listening to Dr. Elaine Ingham from Soil Food Web. Hope this helps.

Hi did you like the ball valve setup better than the pressure regulator setup? I have a very similar setup to your first one but at 10 psi. My inout water is 45 psi. I have a total of 8 lines about 80 feet long and when i have 4 lines open, Mazzei creates suction but with a 5th line is open the suction stops. Do you think going with the ball valve will work with more lines open?

When I switch to the ball valve I got a finer level of control. So you can adjust to a finer degree then just using a pressure regulator. I would definitely switch to the ball valve. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

@BareMtnFarm thanks for the quick reply, I'll be trying out the valve and makes sense to me too. The pressure regulator pretty much drops my psi by too much.

Your anaerobic fertility, to you think you adding the right microbes to the soil?

Jadam Comfrey tea does add microbes to the soil because when you start the process, you put leaf mold into the water. Also, you put in a little sea salt for minerals. Please keep in mind that aerobic microbes only inhabit the first 1" of top soil. Where your roots are are almost 100% anaerobic microbes. You can check out Jadam on youtube to understand this method more. Good luck in your garden!
