I had stopped at both the gas station and the restaurant in the past. Crazy to see all the old buildings in Breezewood like a ghost town

I know someone who used to work at the motel. It was a really nice place back then, when it was first built in the late '80s. It's so sad it fell into decline and then burned. Did you like the grill-turned-mailbox out front?

Your Breezewood videos brought back memories. I stayed in Breezewood many times over the years but the last time I stayed there was in that Days Inn in 2006. In the 60's and 70's my family used to stay at the Howard Johnson's and if I recall correctly a Quality Courts. My favorite thing in Breezewood was the Crawford Museum. The lady who owned it in the 60's was so friendly and she patiently explained to me all about the various animals.

Sanitary Waste Disposal is where anybody can empty their grey and black tanks of waste. That's from RV's Motorhomes, Travel Trailer's and some Semi Trucks.

Nuts to Breezewood and Pennsylvania for forcing travelers to go through the Breezewood retail gauntlet when connecting between 76 and 70. What a racket.

it was the federal government more so than the state they wouldn't allow a connection that was just highway it had to do with tax dollars and the interstate system

Sad video....Used to stop for lunch at that stainless diner about 15 years ago, on my home from York PA Harley Davidson factory tour....that's closed too now....This video series reminds me of the Catskills NY abandoned resorts, where the earth is reclaiming the old structures that used to be magnets for vacationers and big time entertainment names in the 1950s and 60s....Sad....pretty soon it'll all be McD, Burger King, and other fast food glop places and no more little roadside hotels....I stayed in one of those Breezewood hotels while on my motorcycle trips thru the area....drive up to the room door...unload.... sit outside with a beer thinking about that day's trip...and stay in a vintagy cheap hotel....I'm old now too and I guess this is where we're all headed....:(

Hi, I like your videos of Breezewood, PA. It is amazing just how patterns of human pathways change for no really evident reason. I have been looking at Breezewood on Google Earth and have a question. Just southeast of the intersection of Rts 70 and 30 is a very large facility that has been abandoned. The parking lot is huge. There is one section of the building that has a very prominent orange roof on it. Can you tell me what that place used to be? It looks like it may have been the entrance to a motel or similar. I have looked at the maps for a while and can't really see how it fit into the traffic pattern. I always wondered why the state abandoned such a large section of the Turnpike, and why didn't they tear it up rather than just walking away from it? Lots of strange things have happened in that area it seems. Thanks for the interesting vids.

I haven’t a clue as to what the building you are referencing looks like, but going off of the prominent orange roof, it was most likely a Howard Johnson’s restaurant/hotel combo. The last HoJo’s restaurant closed in 2016, whilst the hotel chain is now owned by economy chain Wyndham.

That was last a Ramada, I think the owner of the other Ramada owned both and moved it to where the current one is (now burned out). That used to be the best location before the turnpike was re routed as it was right on an exit ramp. I think the space next to it used to be another gas station. No idea why it has been left standing for so long, that just invites squatters. The turnpike itself was bypassed simply because the three original tunnels on that route were only 2 lanes wide. They caused bottlenecks as early as the 1950s when traffic exploded.

At the 3:34 part I seriously thought that someone was sitting at the bar right inside the door. I was silently screaming at you through my phone to watch out

Hey man you should check out Eastpoint Mall in Dundalk MD if you ever get the chance. I live 10 minutes from there and it’s had the same fate as most of the malls you’ve checked out on here as my dad used to tell me it was booming in the 70’s and 80’s and now it’s pretty much dead inside.

I do not understand the need for kids or vandals to destroy these places. Let alone, mark their territory with graffiti, like a dog pissing on a tree to let others know he was here.

It's a shame the way Breezewood looks now, this to me was the "City of Signs". I've been passing through Breezewood on my way to DC for the March for Life event in the past 15 years, and with the exception to a few novelty shops and Gateway Plaza, it's gone downhill.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly where your at on top of the hill with the old days inn. I see there is a new one beside the Sheetz but that one is obviously not the one you are at. I'm using Google Earth and still can't figure it out.

If you think about it before you go to this places, if you look on the GIS maps for the county you can see the tax records of who owns the property and who pays the property taxes guaranteed somebody's paying property taxes no matter what conditions in

A shame about the vandalism, but what's the difference? Days Inn took whatever they wanted and were never coming back. Obviously. I'm sure that's what the vandals thought.

It was bad when my wife and I stayed there about 20 years ago. "All roads go through Breezewood". I will never understand how the city fathers got the Feds/State of PA to make cars exit in the middle of town just to go from one Interstate to another. Money talks again.

From my understanding, in order to get the Federal Highway funds to build a direct interchange, the Pennsylvania Turnpike would have been forced to stop collecting tolls at that location, because apparently you can't force drivers onto a toll road without a non-toll alternative. The alternative is there now, in the form of route 30, but in order to get the direct interchange built now, Bedford County would have to apply for the funds. They don't want to do that because it would cripple the businesses that are left.
