Miss Kmart, total crime what happened to them. Other great stores I miss are Sears, CalDor, Ames, KB toys, and ToysRus. I know I am forgetting a few but the past was a better place.

🤔 hmmm 🤔. I'm actually liking this area !!! Why ??? I grew up in Akron , and joined the Service in 79 ... Bored with the Service life , so I got out in bumming around various states for a decade ... 😢 Ended up in Maine where I made a decent living for myself ... However, I never liked the modern changes in areas like Portsmouth and Portland where average people can't afford to live .. Therefore, Brownsville PA is extremely appealing to me 😊😊😊😊😊

I don't understand how a store like Kmart goes bankrupt, while Target thrives. They are essentially the same store. What happens?

Overnighted there twice - first time in 1964 when my parents moved from Maine to Florida (I was on leave after USAF Tech School) and again in 1968 when they did it again and I was on my way to Europe with the USAF. It was tacky then. Rooms were clean and comfortable, though. One thing that I did like was that all of the parking is covered - so if the weather was crap, you didn't get wet between the car and the room.

7:29 Isn’t it Amazingly Bizarre?! How ANY destroyed Rust Belt Fatality?! Always, has THUMPING music playing without any sign of inhabitants in sight. Until, it’s night! When the Zombie 🧟♂️ Apocalypse comes out of the gutters, and banks of Hell. There’s always a Horror Story about a rich idiot. Charlatan rushes in promising to restore, renovate a once thriving community. Which always turns out to be a disastrous nightmare. They SUCK up all available historical grants. I personally know of a once city, now village that did this exact thing. Promises of Ohio River Front Gambling yet they NEVER had any plans of carrying through. Because you have to have the willingness of community, and their leaders at that time. Although, they clearly, desperately need commercial revenue. Aren’t in anyway, shape, nor form willing to budge on coming out of a 30-40 year blight. It’s pitiful and no one ever sees the monsters lurking in the shadows. Apologize for rambling and actually thinking more. This affected a dozen small towns in the Ohio Valley.

This narrator demonstrates his complete ignorance of the steel industry. Demand for steel did not go down. Demand for steel in the united states has increased and continues to increase. It's simply that it's no longer produced here. Illegal competition from Communist and government subsidized foreign international firms tdestroyed our industry. They did not have the same pollution, Environmental, Safety, Labor and wage laws. Our corrupt in rotten holitions did not protect our industries. And as a result , we lost them. Today , most steel is made in communist china , where there is no such thing as environmental, Labor or safety laws. Our government hates american people and that's why we lost our steel industry. Don't believe me. Then do your own research as I did on the steel industry. People who run our nation hate American common people because they destroy and export our industries to foreign nations which do not produce goods blue skirts and compete using the same lawss that we have here in the united states. Is it? Any wonder that they can produce products much cheaper and then export them from halfway around the world to the united states in which we have absolutely no protection from international firms that produce goods in countries that have absolutely no laws to protect its citizens as we do. The narrator is a highly ignorant person and he propagates false information About the demise of the steel industry here in the united states.

Brownsville was the home of Chief Redstone and was called Redstone during the French and Indian War. Chief Redstone fought against George Washington at fort Necessity just outside of Uniontown Pa. I grew up in Uniontown Pa and played sports against Brownsville. They had some good football teams.

I hope this new company can turn things around, there's a glimmer of hope now that they are owned by a private company and not some massive corporate hedge fund. That being said it wont be easy to turn things around with only two stores left on completely different sides of the country.

If the town has ownership of these buildings they need to be online for sale so the city makes money and people get to buy the property. The reason they are empty is not just that they are abandoned but nobody knows who to contact to buy and invest in them. Just DO NOT sell to one person again. Rochester PA had the same issue and is in the same shape. Cal U of PA 1986

It looks like they are buying everything in bulk directly from the manufacturer. That means they only have about 10% of the assortment they used to have. With virtually no customers, you have to wonder how they are going to sell 12 purple sweaters in size 6

I had went to K Mart for so many years that I do miss them. I did know that their prices were higher than Walmart for identical products. For example - Edge shaving cream and Tuff Stuff car upholstery cleaner. The beeping you hear at the exit door is a keypad trouble sounder for the Radionics/Bosch Fire alarm and intrusion system. A leaking roof is one thing to neglect but fire/life safety systems are very important and violates NFPA 72 fire codes. The Fire Marshall could make an order to repair the trouble or face temporary closure of the business.

I miss Kmart but they just didn't ever adapt or evolve. We had Kmart and Walmart. Then Meijer came along and Walmart remodeled, adding a grocery section and a few other building add-ons. Meanwhile Kmart did nothing and were gone within 10-15 years.

In the 1st half of the 20th century many immigrants came to steel & mining towns to work. It wasn't common to have a car in small towns & cities. Churches & schools & corner grocers were walkable. Every ethnicity had their own church, originally in their native language. There would be an Italian Catholic church, a Polish Catholic church, a Ukrainian orthodox church, a German Lutheran church etc. Every few blocks, in their respective ethnic neighborhoods. My grandparents emigrated to such a town.

A place is either unique or it isn't. There aren't shades of unique, because it means one of a kind. This lazy or misguided use of language means that "unique" has lost it's meaning; nothing can be truly singular anymore.
