Our offensive line will be the difference between a 7-6 season and meeting KSU or Utah in the Big 12 title game and competing for a spot in the first 12-team playoff. I didn’t like the preseason hype last year… I love it this year.

@@Technogeek-rc6us hey I hear you. I’ve been in the room on techs side for nearly 3 decades. The team we have right now is more talented than all but maybe one team I’ve seen in that time span. That doesn’t mean we will win every game but the accumulation of evidence suggests that we have a much better chance at doing so this year over last year.

Some of the o line pieces we picked up this time were sought after prospects in high school and as transfers, they already have a proven individual body of work. If they can gel as a unit we could be in for a special ride. If they can’t then it’s going to be more of the same ole Texas Tech. O line is the only issue on either side of the ball that gives me pause…

I sort of feel the same way... but you cant win games if you cant block. Tech hasn't been able to block for over a decade and that's contributed to QB1 not finishing the season for the last 6-7 seasons. If the o-line can get their shit together... this team can have a double digit win season.

The reducing of roster size is going to create more parity between the Power 4. Also teams that go to the playoffs and play more games will have more injuries to recover from. Look at the losing Super Bowl team every year, many have a big let down year the following season due to emotional and physical wear and tear. I don’t think with less players to use and more games to play we will see the likes of an Alabama again. Could be wrong but so many factors have shifted that we do not even know the implications yet. We will see!

I believe I hear Chris saying he will root for every team except TCU. Respect for that. A lifetime of animosity cannot just be waved away. If I had gone to A Heights or Paschall, I’m sure I would harbor hate in my heart for the spoiled rich kids from the rough neighborhood that surrounds TCU.

Turning my Homer off and just looking at the national media landscape. I could Argue that Tech could be that brand in the Big 12. Much like MHver3 where he throws every scenario out there so he can say “see, I told you so” the national media is doing that with Tech since Joey’s arrival. Josh Pate, Lee Corso, someone at ESPN picking Tech in the playoff last pre season. They all see the facilities improving, recruiting improving, the culture improving. And if Tech bursts through this year or in the next two years they get to say “See, I’ve been telling you to watch out for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders” I hate calling Tech the “cute pick” but that’s exactly what they are doing. Personally I think Tech is still a few years away. Joeys first full class is only true sophomore’s this year, the OL is still questionable, Kittley is growing as an OC, and I won’t believe we have a healthy QB until I see it. Praying to 8lb 7 oz baby Jesus for a 9-3 season but I won’t burn the campus down if it’s 7-5

Tech already has the alumni size, fanbase size, money, facilities, and support to be the "brand" in the Big 12. Tech lacks the wins to really make the media talk about them. If basketball can consistently get to the tournament and football wins 8+ every year.... that'll make them the "brand" of the Big 12 IMO.

If texas tech beat a kansas st or a utah the big 12 would get 2 teams in

To me, the entire league must root against Utah and them winning the Big12 this season would pretty much guarantee only 1 playoff team. There is a national perception that the big12 is a bunch of mediocre teams and Utah will come in as the best team in the conference. Them not even making the conference championship game and finishing 3rd or 4th would go a long ways in changing the perception of the rest of the conference.

I agree. Them coming in and struggling would be a big perception shift. I'm also rooting for the ex pac-12 schools to wreck shop in the big ten. KSU, ISU, OSU, and Tech being the top 4 (or including Kansas, tcu, WVU, Baylor) would be a major justification for the relative power of the league.
