Updating An Old 6.20 CFW PSP To The Latest 6.61 CFW!

Hi guys, Tech James here,
What to do if your PSP has an old firmware with custom firmware installed. Your best option is downgrading to the original firmware then updating to 6.61 to get 6.61 CFW!

Super useful, I had a old fat psp that I had custom firmware on which was 6.39 the cronoswitcher did work on it too and will update it to the latest one too.

Hi, maybe u could help me with this problem, my PSP turns off when I try to update it xD, I do all the steps but when I open the Update from my PSP the psp screen appears and after that It just turns off and stays like that unless I turn it on. and nothing changes. My PSP is sitting at v 1.51 rn lol

what people dont know is that there are certain emulators that only work in cfw 6.20. like some modded cps1,cps 2 and neogeo. In my opinion 6.20 permanent is the best at least for retro gaming. this is great if you dont care about that. great video by the way james. keep up the good work.

CFW 6.61 user here. CPS2 and Neo Geo work great. Much better than 6.60 CFW.

Before you can hack your PSP, do you have to format the memory stick first after that you download the latest firmware and the custom firmware?

When i bought my PSP 1000 the language was on Japanese and it had the firmware 5.50 installed so i updated it to 6.61 and then downgraded it with the Chronoswitch Downgrader to 6.60 and installed Pro CFW non-Permanent.

james what can i do without a Battery, I can't find any for sale in my city, and shipping from AliExpress, Amazon, ebay and etc would take a month or two, do you have any idea on how I can bypass the "low charge" error when updating.

Hi i have psp 1000 phat and 5.50 gen - d full installed when i tried to install 6.61 infinity lme my psp bricked and i killed my battery when i tried to build pandora battery. Local seller helped to me remove the brick and he installed again that 5.50 gen - d full and here is the thing at least i want to upgrade my psp 6.60 pro or up and i don't have any pandora battery i mean i don't want a second brick what should i do can you guide me pls?

Hey james If you see this i could use your help, my psp was modded a few years back and its now version 6.20 PRO-B4. i tried various videos of yours and nothing worked even when i tried downgrading the software, nothing shows up in my game folder but "Prometheus ISO loader" and "TN Homebrew enabler" I'd appreciate your help or anyone elses whos watching this

Strange. I could just update to OFW from CFW just fine. No hiccups or bricks. It just deletes the trace CFW on it like iOS. Once you update the CFW or jailbreak is gone. Now chronus downgrade needed. Like 5.00M33-7 to 6.61 OFW just like that.

My 3000 model has the same issue. It wont recognise the SD adapters but it always finds the official Sony Pro-Duo cards. What model is your PSP?

Can someone help me out? My son just got a psp 1001 it has the ofw 6.20 installed on it tried to set it up for him had to download the otw 6.61 and everytime i try to intall the update it goes to the white psp screen for a few secs then shuts off and doesnt install it. Can anyone recommend a cheap memory card/sd card to buy? I bought one but it doesn't work. It is cracked on the cnr but I dunno if thats the problem as it doesn't look like it would effect it. Its a double black n white one I have. I'm told they work.

Why did you try to install 6.20 OFW? You can install OFW over CFW, did this several times back in the day. BTW 1k 2kv2 models can use cipl flasher for permanent hack, no need to use infinity

I have a 1000 & 3000 model PSP but I use Infinity as I like my 1000 PSP to not have permanent CFW installed on it. Plus it only takes like 10 seconds to install it and for the PSP to reboot.

@@cien0000 Like what? I don't use my 1000 too often as my 3000 has a far better screen and that's the PSP I use mostly but when I do use my 1000 it's only for PSX games and some emulators.

If you have a PSP 3000 or GO stay on 6.20, but you could update it to the latest PRO firmware version which I believe is PRO-C2 But to be perfectly honest unless you run into some problems or bugs you might as well just leave it as it is I'm using 6.20 PRO B10 (permanent) on my PSP 3000 and I don't see any reason nor benefit to go above that.

First, remove the cfw so u have 6.60 ofw, then install 6.61 ofw and after that u can install 6.61 cfw of ur choice. also if u have psp street u can't install infinity cfw

Don't do it! 6.61 doesn't really support pops loaded for ps1 games 6.60 pro-c rev 3 is a better option for PSP cfw

The latest versions of certain emulators will only run on the latest CFW so yes, but in terms of performance like loading times etc it's not going to make a difference.
