Looking back, I gave the Gen 1 UpDownAir unit a decent review-but did it really deserve it? The more I thought about it, the more I realized it had more shortcomings than I originally claimed-apparently I was blinded by convenience. Seeing a "new" and updated Generation 2 version come out, I quickly jumped on it and swapped the systems out. Did UpDownAir really improve on the design, or will I still be waiting on the side of the road as my tires fill up?
The products mentioned can be found on amazon:
UpDownAir Gen 2: amzn.to/3euAUqW
Coyote Deflators: amzn.to/3etyb12
Voswitch Programmable Switch Panel: amzn.to/3qCnQlQ
Tire Pressure Gauge: amzn.to/30wLq8P
Extreme Outback Compressor: www.extremeout...
Now it should be noted that UpDownAir says to raise the regulator pressure a little bit if you have pulsing of the compressor (as shown in the video) but the Magnum air compressor pumps out so much air that I would have to set the regulator at nearly full output to prevent that. Doing so would make the Updownair/central air controller useless-I’d essentially have my air compressor just hooked up to the tires and it wouldn’t automatically shut off anywhere close to the psi I want.
It might seem ridiculous, but removing 8 valve stem air caps and going around and hooking up each tire whip took longer than expected. That extra minute or two could have been used actually airing up the tires rather than walking around and hooking everything up.
I did not show the unit speed for airing down, as it took a lot longer for me to inflate that I simply forgot! You’ll have to trust me, but it takes a lot longer to deflate the tires vs using coyote/staun deflators. If not, ask around-someone out there has the Updownair setup and they’ll tell you the same thing-it takes forever! In between the video when I change inflation tests, I disconnect the air whips and hook up my Coyote deflators instead. When using the controller for airing down all 4 tires, the air coming out of the controller felt like the air coming out of 1 tire, not 4! You’d think there would be a massive blast of air coming out of the air down valve, but there just wasn’t.
Thanks to Bensound for the music!
