Upgrade Pistol Crossbow - More Power! (2/5 - making prod/limb spacer)

I show you the easiest way to upgrade the power of your pistol crossbow - by making a prod / limb "Spacer" with just a spare limb and a dremel.
I cut down and shape a spare 80lb limb to make an 80mm 'prod spacer'. What this does is increase the draw weight of the bow by increasing the force required to bend the limb and thus cock.
As standard the draw weight of a standard Armex Tomcat II was measured at 77.38lbs (only just shy of the 80lb claim), and with this modification it will be increased significantly.

Nice work. I did the same, no measuring, I just used a simple old saw and cut it down. Dont have any of your equipment. Works fine tho!

I fitted a full limb, all but 2", cut from either end. Works lovely. See paganwelsh ebay. Got some cocking arm buffers for sale ;) lol

Why didn't you post a video of the finished product and how the power increase worked and how the bow shot

Hi Tim I am sorry. I had a number of things happen which completely interrupted my life, and I then lost my password also. I shall post something detailing the finished product, and do a chronograph test. Due to my health it may take a few weeks but I will certainly post it. Sorry I do have a video of the bow firing at a Barbie. It's less than scientific, but was its first test. She fires well. I am hoping the power will not be too severely degraded after a year now, for when I make another vid for you (I have lost my footage from before, because of everything that was going on, not an excuse, just the case, very unfortunately)

Yes, it was just easier to match the profile and cost next to nothing, the sacrificial crossbow prod came from a bow that cost me less than 10 GBP with two strings and three bolts to boot... oh and some string wax. Years ago my grandfather and I used a leaf spring from an old Landover to make a large static bow... Before KZfaq was a thing, or my owning a video camera, unfortunately.

I just purchased four prods. You can do two power boosts out of one prod if you cut it in half, then cut the half at the point where it begins to taper. I’m going to do one of these and then “turn it over” so the arc of the boost is opposite the arc of the prod.

I couldn’t turn it over. I just put a 6.5” section of prod behind the existing prod. Speed increased to 237 feet per second. Definitely a worthwhile addition.

or just use a piece of wood or metal plates lol wastong a good limb for a fukin spacer, lol i just use aluminum plate

Wow, literally 5 GBP, such an expense... For something that is shaped appropriately so as not to wear the main prod... And it's not just a spacer if the prod need to deform it and around it when you draw it, it forms part of the prod. I still have a metal spacer plate in there... Metal needs to be spring steel or have some memory to work properly in this scenario, if I used aluminium it would deform or need to be soo thick that it wouldn't fit, and wood won't add much to the bow in this scenario... When you know what your on about and feel like comparing the two options I will take you seriously bwahahaha 🤣

hunter 6122 1 year ago Why didn't you post a video of the finished product and how the power increase worked and how the bow shot : AGREED 100% My next video, I will demonstrate how to buy a cigarette lighter from a shop, if you tape it to your car exhaust your car will then do 0 to 100 mph in 2 seconds......honest Indian Now of course I am just joshing with you, but you can see what we are getting at rendeverance. You have to demonstrate any claims, so you do a before and after using a chronograph to check speed please.

I did, but I lost the videos, then life happened and I never got around to redoing. Since this video seems to have been far more popular than expected I have a chrono, so I will set it up the moment I get opportunity and shoot it with and without the mod. I apologise for the incomplete series which I intended to make the first time around, the bow has had some use since but it should still be a relevant comparison. I have too many projects and too little time, trust that the one thing I fully documented gets lost with a whole terabyte of data 🤦🤦🤦

why wouldn't you just fabricate a spacer, why cut and waste a whole limb for nothing . could have made a spacer out of so many scrap options for cost of nothing ,so so soooooooo strange
