Amazingly concise and "to the point" video. I use IBKR and as a relatively newer trader (just over a year), i have run into trouble with my orders when I misunderstand the details of what they do. Thank you from Vancouver Matt

Thanks, Matt. Another great and informative video. You mentioned using a protective stop limit order but when would you use just a stop order instead? I'm afraid that if the price gaps down, the order would not get filled if I used a protective stop limit order.
@carusoinsights
@carusoinsights Жыл бұрын
You are correct but that is why I only use them after the market has opened and I place the limit a safe margin below the stop price to ensure it triggers

Thank you Matt. I had a side question. Do you think that there is any benefit of learning futures and options while following CAN SLIM? If so, also tell some good sources for that. Asking you this question because you are a great teacher and one of the best persons to learn from.
@carusoinsights
@carusoinsights Жыл бұрын
Futures are primarily for standardized contracts, so they don't really play a big roll in a CANSLIM type system. Options can be helpful, and I know many people who do use them with CANSLIM stocks. However, less liquid stocks result in even less liquid options that can over time become quite costly. I don't personally use them. I find them a distraction

Hi Rupesh, I use Interactive Brokers and have for almost 20 years now. I love the technology. However, if you require strong customer service such as a contact person, it may not be the place for you.

New subscriber! This was awesome.. I have only been using market orders as it was recommended. My only question was in regards to gap ups/downs. If you owned a stock and say it gapped down on bad news, wouldn't a market order be better so you would get filled? Using a limit with the .20 cent buffer may not get triggered and then you could be worse off? Sorry if this is a dumb question

I loved learning this. Now I need to practice. I would like to learn how to recognize what's going on from the order queues. Can we recognize algos? I have read some traders use order size as a code etc. I would be interested in demystifying this.

Hi Matt, Recently, there are several occasions where we want to buy a stock on strength. i.e. half position when it hits target price and another half if it closes above the target. Is there an order type on IBKR that will buy if the price closes above a target? I found the Limit-on-Close order type. But this does the opposite of what we want to do. I'm not familiar with all the order types avail on IBKR. Is there one that can do what we want?

Orders that need to be filled near the close if a condition is met needs to be worked manually. I'll take a look to see if there is a way to automate it.

HI LH just an FYI you can do what you are asking on TD Ameritrade's think or swim software. You can also set orders to trigger at certain times. i.e. If you look at your charts at night and you aren't available to place an order in the morning but you want to buy AAPL if greater than X price but you want to wait for the first 30 minutes to go by for the Monday morning pops you can set your order to be submitted at any specified time frame. i.e. at 10:00 am. And if it doesn't fill within an hour you can set it to cancel. And if you want to buy an option, instead of the stock, if the price of that stock hits a trigger price you can also place that trade on the software. Heck you can even buy AAPL If the Nasdaq or s&P hit a certain price or sell for that matter. Plus you can memorize these orders so you don't have to take the time to set all this up with every trade. The above is just a sampling of the Think or swim capabilities. I just reread what I wrote and you would think I get paid to sell their software. LOL, I am just a very satisfied long-term user. I am pretty sure Olvier Kell the winner of the 2020 US investment championship uses think or swim.
