Dan, I have this setup, but I see there is no map. It shows a map (TopoActiveTexas) seems like I would want the map from the XT, is that correct?
@3131960dan
@3131960dan Жыл бұрын
Topo North America would be the same as your XT. You would want the topo active just if you are going to create a course. (Later to be converted to a track) using the explore app. No idea where you got just the texas part of the map.

Dan, I just finished the CO BDR. I had multiple tracks going on at the same time, it was really confusing. How do you just have one track running at a time? I'm used to the old, select a track and "View on Map" with my other Garmin's.
@3131960dan
@3131960dan Жыл бұрын
Simple solution. I make all my tracks either green {paved veryeasy) blue {most tracks). And red (difficult). Then when you follow a track start navigation (GO) and it will turn the track you are navigating pink like it does a route. Then when you come upon another track it wont be pink and you will know your way. And as a added bonus when navigating a track it will tell you the distance to the end😁

Once you have the Track on your XT, do you need to convert it to a Route to get navigation directions? If so, how?
@3131960dan
@3131960dan 2 жыл бұрын
Chris, You certainly could convert a track to a route if that is your desire. 99.9% of Adventure and off road riders do not use Routes. The reason being.....A route is dependent on the routable map installed on the device. Let's say there are several riders in your group and each have a different version of City Navigator installed on their GPS. A route that you share with them very possibly will take them a different way to the destination. Also if you divert from your original route the GPS is very likely to re calculate a different way to the next waypoint. And if you are going on a trail and it's not on your map (which is HIGHLY likely) then the GPS is going to route you around that trail to the next road it has on the map. A track on the other hand is like taking a paper map and using a highlighter to mark where you want to go. The GPS does not guide you. You use it like you would a map and navigate by checking your position on the screen. A track will ALWAYS stay on the path you created. Even if you turn off your map on the GPS. Learn to use tracks and you will be a better navigator in the long run. Hope this helps.

I'm not able to sync my Zumo XT with the Explore app. Explore shows my Zumo XT under "unsupported devices." Did something change with the app? I am able to access the Zumo with Drive, though. Thanks!

disregard that message. it's confusing i know but trust me. the xt works with explore but via garmin drive. make sure the xt is connected to garmin drive. you can see a little road icon on the xt when it's connected or you can open the app on your phone to check. once it is connected to drive, if you have it setup correctly it will sync with explore.

Don, . When using Explore it's puts your files in "Collections" These Collection can be turned on and off via the App or on the unit in order to not clutter your screen. This is the main reason I use it. Also another super use full feature is you can use Explore like you Would GAIA - Let say you are on a ride and have lunch with a bunch of riders. You are talking about where you are going after lunch. Just pop out your phone, open up Explore and you have EVERYTHING that is on your GPS. Not only can you use it to plan the next leg but then you can Email, Text, Air Drop to any of the riders with a phone. Also, Im not sure of this but when using just drive and you send a GPX I don't know that the custom waypoint Icons will transfer correct. I'm sure there are a few more reasons to use Explore over just Drive but I'm having a senior moment......LOL Hope this helps. Dan

Why use Explore to transfer from your phone to your XT vs just using Drive?
@3131960dan
@3131960dan Жыл бұрын
If you use explore it will put your gpx in collections. Then you can turn on and off collections on your Gps depending on what you need. Less cluttered that way. Easier to find stuff when its in a group. You can also use your phone for planning while stopped at lunch or at camp. You use Explore on your phone to manage the files on your XT. The GPS mirrors what you have on your phone. You can also share files from explore not yo just other xt’s. But through txt, email, airdrop. When you use explore all custom waypoint icons and track colors are transferred and show correctly on the XT. Not sure if they do using just drive. I know had issues when i first started transferring to the Xt without explore. Try it. If you get the workflow down you will love it. Its the way the XT was designed to be used.
@snatr
@snatr Жыл бұрын
Also, I believe there are extra steps involved in doing that- At least for road navigation. Because the Drive app loads into the gps as a track. I then have to convert it into a trip on the Zumo to navigate it with turn by turn directions.

@@snatr Hi I'm trying to load a gpx route mad in Harley Trip Planner onto the XT, and it sends all of the locations- start, destination, gps locations in between, but how did you turn those into a complete trip that you can navigate start to finish? Thanks Jeff
@snatr
@snatr 11 ай бұрын
@@jefflovell4701 I'm not familiar Harley Trip Planner but I do know exporting a trip that I created using the Rever website came out wrong if I exported the wrong GPX format. But otherwise you should see the imported GPX file in your Tracks section on the Zumo. If you open it up like that you should see the complete route (depending on track color). If the route looks right, then you'll click on the three lines to the left for the menu and scroll down for convert to trip. Then select start to finish. You'll need to do the same thing if you wanna follow the route back with directions, only you'll convert finish to start instead. And btw... When you follow a route in Trip Planner and it asks for your starting point. It won't run the trip in reverse if you choose destination. That's why you have to convert the track again but in reverse. Found that out the hard way 😛 Good luck 👍
