The finance minister announced increases to other social grants by an average of R100 a month:the old age grant goes up from R2,085 to R2,185; the war veterans grant rises from R2,105 to R2,205; the child support grant is increased by R25, from R505 to R530; the care dependency grant moves from R2,085 to R2,185; the foster care grant is increased from R1,125 to R1,180; and the disability grant is up from R2,085 to 2,185.

To think when I tell people politians should be earning minimum wage they call me crazy. Until politians earn minimum wage and really face the struggles of poor South Africans nothing will change. Pensioners get less then R3000 a month, which is equivalent to the salary of politians per day, this excludes the benefits politians enjoy.

What an utter disgrace the old age pension has been over the years, especially to the people who helped work the economy over all those years an old age pension should at least be sumilar or equal to the basic pay threshold, for those who never worked a day in their life for this country, and absolutely more for those who did. Every month i see how pensioners shop for basic food and still have to leave a few items behind at the tills. There's no specific electricity relief specifically for the elderly, they are grouped along with the rest according to units usage. Indigent relief is only applicable if the property is registered on the pensioners name, and many of them, if they got to own property, only registered in one spouse's name, and when that partner pass away, there is no money to transfer tge property, so the surviving spouse do not qualify for indigent relief at all, and has to fork out, from that measly pension, rates, water, electricity, food and travel. Its an absolute insult and disgrace.
