John I really miss they boys, but it's so refreshing to see how your kids and wife jump in to make it happen. Maybe it's just us upstate boys but family is always there for us.

Bottom line - You admit your error and turned it into a positive. Best learning experience is gleaned from mistakes that can be corrected. Stay positive and don't stop learning / experiencing life's challenges. Majority of us (the viewers) are rooting for your continued success. Peace.

Great Job. In a perfect world you did a perfect job. Lesson learned. Double check everything. Always. Helpful hint. After you finger tight the bolts. Snug bolts to secure. Then torque to specifications. I had dirt fall between my fitting. I had to do it again.

Hey John. There is a channel that I watch, and have watched for YEARS actually, Andrew Camarata, property Maintenance, and he has done this many times with all of his machinery. Learn as you grow. Was great to see your son so interested in helping you, and your kids are great, was nice that you wife was also there for a while as well. Always a blessing when the family stands behind you and supports you in what your doing and in your business. OH NO!!! wrong ones after all that work?? I feel Round Two coming up:-=).

Good video. I've got a Cat mini-ex I changed the track on a while back. Did just like you and took the zerk out. Put all the force I could with the bucket to move the roller back and it barely budged. I was so confused, but then I took that zerk holder out and the grease poured out!

Got there in the end John :-) You might want to watch some of the C&C Equipment KZfaq vidoes, what them boys don't know about working on John Deere Dozers isnt worth knowing & you can guarantee the way they do things is the easier (& safest) way to do it. They got a few vids changing sprockets, tracks & rollers plus a tonne of other Dozer parts.

Learning curve! Hey Jon, I learn more from my mistakes than everything going perfectly. It’s quite okay even though it’s aggravating and time consuming. Love that your children were there with you and learning, too. When you said, “No, you don’t need a bandaid” it sounded like my dad (😇❤️), i.e. toughen up.😉 Sadie is beautiful as is her Mom!

Impacted, Loose battery connections, think there might have been a recall on them or a replacement. I think if you go to western truck and tractor channel he was having the same issue and if I recall rightly they replaced his impact driver all together. I like the we’ll figure it out as we go thinking, nice job sir, good to see the family working together, thanks for the ride along , good video. BTW, oops, is not a mistake it is a negative learning experience, if you’re like me, I tend not to forget those anytime soon, just think how much faster it will go the 2nd time around, well till ya hit the red loctite anyway, just as a suggestion, when I loctite things in, I apply it to 1/3 the bolt surface toward the head of the bolt, remember you need to comp for the thickness of the part you bolting thru, don’t ask how I figured that out, 🙄that way if you have to heat to get it out, it’s already on the hottest part of the head, that being said, to date I have had no problems with loosening of the bolts when I have done this, but clean surface is key. Just a thought and what has worked for me past, it also makes that bottle of loctite last a little longer.

Sorry I just watched a 8 month old video,that's what I like to do is watch older videos only way to learn more about you and the business, it's like I watch LETS DIG IT also something satisfying watching you 2 work,haha cant explain it,but my QUESTION I have after watching the old video it was a return I guess a year later to cut again all the regrowth could they not just use ROUND UP or other brush killers to stop the regrowth when I was still working for the city where I worked for 40 years we used Round up on hillsides,alleys,flood control basins up in the mountains it worked great

I too am a contractor and I only say this because after 25 years of experience I have finally in the last 5 years learned that a steady and persistent pace well planned and executed will yield the greatest results ! Been there done that and had happen to me? Give all the info to dealer or parts person, think it’s right and don’t question it? Then 💩not right. Your not the first sir nor will you be the last. Impressed that you got these done yourself? Very hard working alone but you will succeed sir.

Too bad you could't pressure wash it before disassembly. Never seen anyone change the sprocket like that. Most unbolt the pads on the track and let them fall away then use a chain hoist to pull them back together. Your way did look easier though. I'd also use anti seize on the back of the sprockets on the mating surface. Kind of like we do for rotors on your vehicle. C&C Equipment here on KZfaq is the best at learning this type of work. Tough luck on the wrong amount of teeth. Most mechanics lay the old one over the new one to make sure the teeth are correct. Either way, good job brother. We'll just have to watch part two now.

We all have to learn from our mistakes to get better. John you would be better off splitting the track at the master link when you put the new sprockets on. Especially working alone, it will make it easier on you.

They probably gave you 450J sprockets instead of 450H. Or there was a parts break on the 450H. I guess you didn’t feel like breaking the tracks to do this maintenance. Good video!

This is where you really miss the guys. At least you’re getting the experience. One thing: that thing needs a good pressure wash next time. But it’s good to see you putting out videos. One other thing - I don’t want to be you when Sadie turns 18. Your hair is going to turn bright red, then blue, then green, brown, fuchsia, purple, mauve, and finally ashen white. Meanwhile, you’ll have help when Wyatt and Levi come of age. And having Jodi with you already gives you a leg up. Glad to see you’re keeping optimistic these days. Remember, it’s only temporary.

I've always thought the DeWalt impact driver was better than the Milwaukee, its got a better balance, had mine for a couple of years and it's never let me down. Good on you for having a go, so you made a mistake at least you discovered it before you went off somewhere and did some work. As my dear old Mum used to say, you won't make the same mistake again! Obviously not a good one if your climbing a mountain and fall off, but you know what you mean. I wouldn't worry to much, even the best of them make a mistake, ask DP and Letsdig18, am sure they've made a few in their time, it's one of the best ways to learn.

I've learned not to use regular sockets on what needs impact sockets. I know there is a difference.

Jon, on that Milwaukee impact, if it's a recent purchase it could be one of the "B" models that they just modified and are having several problems with. There is a video on KZfaq about the issues the model is having. It looks like Milwaukee was trying to cut some corners and screwed up.

Dang John! As I was watching I read the comments to see if anyone else was telling you it wasn’t a great idea to just change the sprockets if the tracks n pins are also worn. Bad on either will eat the other. Didn’t make sense why people were saying you had to redo everything? Till I saw you pull the second sprocket and just tossed it aside, I was like why didn’t he compare it to the new one? Oh well guess he did on the first one… Then the ending We’ve all done it We all learn You have a great outlook and attitude That with persistence equals success!! Head down keep charging buddy! And look at the other components so your not buying new sprockets again soon.

When you have those bolts that are stubborn take a hammer and give them a couple of hard whacks and usually that’ll shock them and they’ll be easier to break free 🤙🏼

If you use the hoe bucket, it's much easier to get those pushed in. I don't use lock tight on those I've only put anti stuff on it. And tork it down to what it says. It may be very hard to get off like you said. Great video. Gotta love fixing that. Oops well just know we all have done something not right. It was a great learning.
