I loved this movie as a kid and never understood why it was so heavily disliked. It's one of the best studio slashers of that era. It's smarter, classier and more inventive than the vast majority of them. As someone who was really into film, I loved that aspect of it. I also really dug the old-school thriller trope of the twin brother played by the same actor. It's a Scream-style slasher but influenced by Hitchcock films, which is a really neat combo, and the director also being a talented editor and composer helped this film tremendously. It was just better made, more precisely-edited and had a better score than you'd expect from a slasher film. It's a rare care of a sequel with almost no returning actors being better than the original.

It's because while the movie is entertaining, it doesn't do much like the first Urban Legend.........Both films are good but just didnt bring much to the horror genre.........

Jennifer Morrison, Anthony Anderson, Eva Mendes, Anson Mount, Matthew Davis and Jacinda Barrett - the casting directors knew what they were doing, too (talk about spotting future talent!) I listened to the audio commentary. John Ottman wanted to make a serious thriller, whereas I imagine the studio wanted a slasher. I think you can kind of see the tug of war there. I personally enjoy the film.

I think these movies do get made, but they are so hard to find given how much content there is now and how social media drives so much of what people watch where it almost doesn't exist if people don't talk about it. Major studios are too afraid to make movies like this and stick to the safe bets when deciding what to fund.

This is a special movie to me. My mom let me rent it for my 10th birthday party sleepover. We all loved it. As an adult, it’s smarter than a slasher sequel has a right to be I think. It’s not high art, but it’s better than most of its peers.

It's actually a great movie. Could have a couple more kills though, but it's still very enjoyable and well made. This movie kinda gives me the feeling that the Urban Legend franchise could have been an awesome "Anthology". With each movie presenting a new killer and a new story with some little things holding all of them together in the same universe. I LOVE the look of the killer in this movie, creative and creepy and also has a "Giallo" vibe to it. Wish we could see more of this franchise. Now there's a reboot coming and Loretta Devine is in it apparently. Can't wait!

Hey, is your opening tease telling us that you're about to review Frailty? That would be amazing. Of all Bill Paxton's work, that may be his highest achievement. Man oh man, freakin' Ellis from Die Hard. The actor, Hart Bochner, did direct movies like PCU and High School High -- which I'm not sure supports his character's grievance very much. It's all very interesting this year, Chris, looking forward to more.

One of those films I watched with my brother and sisters on VHS, and I believe we actually watched the two Urban Legends back to back since we rented them for the weekend. Good thing is I remember enjoying the films and being if not scared at least creeped out by them. Even though I watched both reviews with their spoilers, I think I'm going to re-watch them back to back again. Plus, I have a HUGE crush on Jennifer Morrison since her days on House. This year's special has been amazing, but I do admit we're missing at least one review with your wife like that or Trick R Treat .

Talking about the tone and how this one should lean more into comedy...that to me is one of the hardest things to do. I made a bunch of short films and they were always either more serious than I wanted or too over the top ridiculous that I wanted. It is always about little things in camera positioning and the way actors deliver there lines and what they actually say....keeping the tone just right where it needs to be is what I consider the sign of a great director.

Honestly this is a good movie but it definitely has problems one is that it felt like they were forced to have it be more serious and less of a silly tone like the 90s slasher movies were use to. Personally I felt like the killer didn't work out because he was in the movie so little that it's easy to even forget he's in the movie. And the whole reason behind him was silly for the movie.

The thing about Scream is that it is scary, witty, and overall entertaining. While it had moments that made you laugh, that humor did not negate the stakes. I felt for Sydney and her friends, and while the opening scene with Drew Barrymore had some cheeky humor, it only underscored the pure terror you were witnessing. Now, Urban Legends: Final Cut, was not this kind of film. It lacked stakes. The narrative, the tone, played out almost like parody, rather than satire. The movie felt like a deliberate homage to Hitchcock or David Fincher, but meant to be a comedy and somebody just left out the sight gags. I remember liking Final Cut, but not loving it. Maybe more intrigued than anything else. Hart Bochner was really the best part of the movie, outside of a few choice kills, because he seemed to be the only one who embraced the camp.

Regardless of quality, I have mad respect for filmmakers who wear multiple hats on a project; just ONE of those hats can be very stressful. It's clear that John Ottman is a talented director, though IMO he's an even better composer, who ironically won an oscar as an editor.

I see Frailty next to Urban Legends Final Cut. Please do a review of the (shouldn't have been) only movie directed by Bill Paxton.

but what happened to the original killer with the curly hair in the first movie at the end? I thought she would for sure continue the killings in this sequel.

This was the first “scary” movie I ever watched. I was in like 7th grade maybe and I watched it with my older cousin who was in high school…I thought I was so cool…I honestly really liked the movie…but it’s also been YEARS since I watched it…maybe time to revisit lol
