Part of the reason Grange Hill, Chigwell and Roding Valley are so quiet is because they are semi rural areas. They also aren't in London - but in the Essex county council area.
@KasabianFan44

I don’t think not being in London has anything to do with it mate. If the Greater London boundary were redrawn to include those stations, the three stations wouldn’t suddenly gain passengers just because of that. Plus, Grange Hill and Roding Valley are both about 5 metres away from the Greater London boundary. Their catchment area clearly includes London too.
@hasana1051
@hasana1051 10 ай бұрын
It makes sense for Grange Hill but the other two stations have different reasons. Roding Valley isn’t used that much since it’s so unnecessarily close to Woodford (and Buckhurst Hill), and Chigwell isn’t used much simply because services are every 20 minutes AND it’s pretty close to Fairlop.
@neil.heffernan
@neil.heffernan 9 ай бұрын
You're both wrong. Roding Valley is quiet because it's on a branch. There's only a few trains per day that go to central London. All other times, you have to wait 30 mins, just for a train to Woodford where you switch to the normal central line. Most of the time it's faster to just walk 15 mins to Woodford and get on there.
@KasabianFan44
@KasabianFan44 9 ай бұрын
@@neil.heffernan Trains on the Woodford-Hainault section DO go to central London throughout the day. It’s just that most of them go the longer way around (via Newbury Park instead of Snaresbrook), and for some weird reason at RV and Chigwell (but not Grange Hill) they’re advertised as terminating at Hainault. Also, I would dispute the fact that their patronage is so low “because the trains are so infrequent”. It’s more likely the other way around - the trains are so infrequent _because_ the stations are so little-used. Your explanation also doesn’t tell the whole story - for example, Mill Hill East has always had more than double the passenger numbers of the three stations, despite also being served relatively infrequently, and (until recently) with very few trains continuing beyond Finchley Central… why is that? (Oh and also, off-peak trains run every 20 minutes on the Woodford-Hainault section, not every 30.)
@neil.heffernan
@neil.heffernan 9 ай бұрын
@@KasabianFan44I'm specifically talking about Roding Valley. I have family living next to the station. All trains going the other way round from Roding Valley terminate at Hainault. You need to switch there to get to central London, which is much slower than getting the Roding Valley to Woodford train and switching there. For Roding Valley specifically, the main reason for low ridership is because people just walk to Woodford or Buckhurst Hill instead, to avoid waiting at RV and having to switch at Woodford. The only trains from RV to Central London go via Woodford, and only run at certain times of day.

I’m from Hainault and the central line end on Hainault. And you need to take another train to get to Grange Hill and Chigwell which does a loop towards Woodford and towards central London. And Grange Hill, it’s like a luxury area where people have Bentleys and Lamborghinis. So I don’t think people there take he tube as they got tons of cars

Wrong, the Quietest Tube Station is Aldwych with 0 Tap ins and Tap outs and it is so quiet, you can here the heartbeat of the Rats… however you can only book tickets there from Blake Hall Tube Station. Best ask at your Local Tube Station for special travel to both stations to experience the silence!

I hope you're joking because that station isn't open to passengers. Besides the tours and all. It's been closed since 1994.

Technically the top three are in Essex, not London. What would be the busiest within the Greater London boundary?

@UrbanStories I think the quietest is Kensington olympia I know it has national rails services but it's still dead quiet overall

@espeon144 it's quiet most of the time but very busy on event days at the Olympia venue, so that's probably why it isn't here. North Ealing is silent almost permanently. I used to work at Ealing Broadway and it took me years to realise thay I could just walk the last bit from North Ealing rather than wait for 10 minutes at Ealing Common. Anyone going into London from the area will use West Acton or Ealing Broadway depending where exactly they live.
