Traveling southbound on US Route 15 from the small town of Point of Rocks, Maryland along the Potomac River / Maryland border to the DC suburb of Leesburg, Virginia. This segment of US-15 is named "James Monroe Highway" for its entire length.
This portion of US-15 has become a major commuter route in the past couple of decades serving as an alternative to the heavily congested I-270. Although this video was filmed on a relaxing and quiet day, this portion of highway is among many two-lane (one lane each way) highways in Northern Virginia that is reaching traffic capacity limits, thus lowering its "level of service", especially during rush hour. This portion of US-15 also passes through the small town of Lucketts, which has become a major bottleneck for the increasingly busy route. Loudoun County has thrown around plans to potentially widen this portion of highway. But if these plans ever come to fruition at all, construction likely wouldn't begin until the late '20s.
