@@markymarknjthis is where the most advanced flight computer makes up for it. Test pilots doing maneuvers that are F22-like. So it sounds like it doesn’t need it vs. the added weight.

@@danieljones1939 that's good news! I understand that that's why the F-35 didn't have TVC, either; the flight computer could replicate most of what TVC can do, minus the downsides. The main downsides I see with TVC are: added weight, increased complexity, greater maintenance, plus difficulties in flight if the TVC is jammed off centerline. What does a pilot do if the TVC is jammed off centerline? Would be be able to continue flying the aircraft? Or, would he be like the Battleship Bismarck when its rudder was jammed? I know that the US has investigated TVC; they tried it on both the X-31 and a special version of the F-15. The US concluded that it wasn't worth it; TVC didn't come with enough pluses to offset the minuses I pointed out above. Like anything else, TVC has pluses and minuses that come with it. AFAIAC, if the flight computer and its software can give you most of what TVC can give you, then that's the way to go. BTW, there's a good book about the X-31; it's entitled "Flying Beyond the Stall". It can be downloaded as a PDF. I downloaded it with a couple of other books when investigating the trend from WVR (dogfighting) to BVR combat. It's thorough and investigates TVC in depth.

@@portcybertryx222 but is it more maneuverable than a Flanker, Fulcrum, or Felon? Those things can practically STOP AND HOVER in midair! Then, they can get going again. I know that doing such maneuvers burns up energy, but they also help get the nose around for a shot at you.

@@markymarknj well thrust vectoring alone would not solve that and American jets have a different doctrine than Russian jets like you mentioned and well these days dogfights are becoming increasingly rare. And in actual combat a Russian jet can’t actually stop with a full weapons load out like it does at Airshows. Outturning and first look is the name of the game in modern air combat and most recent altercations have proved that. Also the F35, F16 and F22 are capable to take on the Russian jets in case we need absolute maneuverability.

@@markymarknj As impressive as the russian jets are in dogfights, the whole point of the cruiser amount of missiles this thing carries is that there is no need for a dogfight, the overwhelming missile amount will basically corner those fighters before visual confirmation has even been made.

Sans stealth, it has better range, load capacity, far less maintenance, less down time, is faster, has more available options, proven battle tested pedigree, is all weather capable, list goes on. And if the rear section of its air frame was just a tad bit larger to where it could house new F135 engines, it would've been the most powerful and fastest fighter jet in the entire the world.

Yeeeah...see, the thing is that the F-22 did not have an easy time beating the F-15 in a test. And that's the fifty year old model, not the new one. And the F-15 can use the longwave IR pod that negates stealth.

Thrust vectoring is more like a gimmic, adding TV increases weight and maintenance cost, moreover abusing TV can bleed your speed in dogfight maneuvers. The F35 is a bright example, despite not being equip with TV, the jet still possesses insane maneuverability for not being thrust vectored, it can do high alpha maneuvers like the F22 or F18 and high speed sustained turns like the F16. It can do things like pedal turns, back flip ( maneuvers were thoughts impossible without Thrust Vectoring), and it can almost do a cobra too. All of that without thrust vectoring, but with advanced flight controls.

That was way before the F15 EX was even made 18yrs to be exact. The 2021 F15 EX is a completely new overhaul of the F15 Airframe with new tech and weapons. That 5v1 you mention was in 2003. 2yrs before their official service date in December 2005.

The Electronic warfare capability on the EX is absolutely insane and the Airforce even admitted now it can shoot down an F22 and F35 before those planes pick it up on radar...So no bud. The Eagle? I don't think so.. 22 FC Radar isn't as strong or reaches the distance that the EX has.

@@bobpritchard979 Making the Strike Eagle stealthy is useless, on account of all the weapons hanging off the bottom, that increase the radar signature. There is a stealth version, called the Silent Eagle, but that plane carries a much smaller payload, and has to keep it's weapons stowed inside the fuselage until they are ready to deploy, to maintain it's low radar signature.

What's the point of stealth in a situation where it's functionally irrelevant? Say an air superiority scenario. I assume that's where units like the EX are supposed to step in; no need to be hidden when you're flying in to obliterate your target.

@@elvo6217 When you just need something capable of carrying munitions more appropriate for levelling city blocks or armoured targets and the like than planes equipped for stealth normally are? The 15 isn’t looking to be used for the same multi-role air dominance and interception positions it used to take, the EX is about taking the 15E variant to its logical extreme.

That's why it would be perfect compliment to much larger fleet of its stealth fighters. US have more stealth fighters than the rest of the world combined.

Isn't the point of running these being when air superiority is established? Stealth is irrelevant when all you need to do is fly in and bomb a target to hell and back.
