Hey, Nate. It's me again, the old navy Lieutenant from germany. I lived and worked in the City of Leipzig, right after the reunification of our beautyful country. When ever I see pictures of our restored country it makes me proud. It took us just 80 years to rebuilt it from the rubbles of the war. I' ll allways answer when this country will call out for help. I made a vow to it's constitution!

The last picture of the video copies the picture "Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer" from Caspar David Friedrich a famous German painter who lived from 1770 to 1840.

I suspect you are drawn to Germany because this is where it all began many hundreds of years ago. Many US Americans have German roots and even the British, Irish and Scots have Germanic roots. It was the Germanic tribes of the Angles and Saxons who settled the British Isles. In other words, the Anglo-Saxons. The Scandinavians also started here. And so pretty much all white people are related to each other. Whether they live in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the USA or Canada. We are one and the same family and we all speak languages with Germanic language-roots. A beautiful movie about my old homeland - I am always amazed at the beauty of the landscapes and the wonderfully reconstructed places. I've lived in Bremen for 40 years now, but I always enjoy going to Saxony from time to time. Many greetings from Bremen to the USA.

In a way it doesn't matter why you feel this pull to Germany it is enough that you do. I am Welsh and although I only lived there for 11 of my 70 years I still feel that heart deep pull for home which in Welsh is called ' hiraeth' maybe far back you have German ancestry but in the end analysis is pointless just follow your heart and when you do get there we will love to see everything German from your American perspective. Glad to see you getting on so well!.

Hey Nate. Im from saxony, was born near Dresden (the capital city u see in the first minutes). It is one of the coolest cities on this planet, because of the fusion of classic and modern architecture. At 3:28, u see "Moritzburg", a small Castle, surrounded by an artifical lake - built for the former King of Saxony, "Augest the Strong" - he had a small sailing ship to play "seafarer" on this lake. The rocks u can see is the "Elbsandsteingebirge" .. absolute great nature, and many old fortresses build directly in to the stone.

My hometown is in the neighboring state of Brandenburg, but it's quite close to the border to Saxony. And as my maternal granddad was born in Dresden and met my grandmother in Leipzig, I know a few places in Saxony: - From 1:56 to 3:20 is Dresden with Semperoper (@ 1:58), Zwinger (@2:12 - 2:25), Frauenkirche (@ 2:36, inside @ 2:50 & after that in snow), Fürstenzug (@2:40), Grüne Gewölbe (@3:09), Goldener Reiter (@3:14) . - Schloss Moritzburg @3:30, known for being one of the film locations for "Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel". - Elbsandsteingebirge @3:40 - Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig @4:50 - Kromlauer Park @5:06 - Burg Stolpen @7:26 That last part with that man walking in the fog is a reference to the painter Caspar David Friedrich and his most known painting "Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer" which he painted while living in Saxony.

Gorgeous video. I live in Leipzig and it's nice to get another prespective of my home. There is a lot to say. And if you ever want to see where "Hogan's Heroes" got its inspiration from: Colditz isn't that far away. Starting at arount 4:44 that is Leipzig. And the beautiful at the water at 3:32? That is Schloss Moritzburg. It is very famous here, because they used it to shoot "Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel" (I don't know the English titel. Three hazelnuts for Cinderella maybe?", ater 50 year still a very popular movie here in Germany

I lived in Zittau for a while, which was one of the richest cities in medieval times (or slightly post medieval). It's quite small but still a marvel, situated on the border to Poland and the Chech Republic. A greater marves is Görlitz on the Polish border (on both sides, not far from Zittau and Dresden), with vast areas of historical buildings from different times. Definitly worth a visit.

The real saxon (old saxon) ist in nordern germany, the northsea region. Today called lower saxony. The name saxon is a few centuries later to east germany (the name gone there, when a lokal king married). The old saxons and angeln (engeln) tribes gone around jear 500 a.d. to Britannia and create kungdoms like wessex, mercia and later England.

correct. The real Saxony is today's Lower Saxony, Westphalia and parts of Schleswig Holstein. By the way, the most famous Saxon is his Westphalian, namely the Widukind

There are around 25,000 castles and palaces in Germany. It's impossible to show them all in a KZfaq movie. But the movie shows quite a lot and I think it's well made. Greetings from Bremen/Germany.
