This video takes a look at Secretary of the Army, Christine Wormuth's future plans for the US Army. Can the Army sustain itself due to extraordinary poor recruiting? Will technology overcome the lack of combat brigades?

"This Kind of War", a book that was given out at the SrNCOA was my Dad's time in the Korean War. Post WW2 was a politically driven draw down etc. resulting in loss of experience and readiness.

Colonel Sir, let’s put the facts out there!! Politicians are idiots!! Politicians shouldn’t be running defence forces. That’s the job of General’s. Understandably there has to be cost constraints but to secure a country the costs are gonna be high. Let’s face it half of the battle is staying one step ahead technically and tactically, both very expensive measures.

Honestly, most generals are politicians, in my experience. It doesn’t seem like a lot of actual warfighters make it to the top. There aren’t many Norman “The Bear” Schwarzkopfs.

I totally agree. Unfortunately 3 and 4 star generals ARE politicians.

Unfortunately, the Army is in a non-sustainable trajectory. I agree their political politics have some impact. I would submit the culture of the audience for service is more likely the largest reason for the downturn. It's also very visible in the labor market today. There is probably a mentality where people want to make big bucks right out of school AND don't want to get dirty doing it!

I’m sure that’s part of it. Young folks don’t want to work and that’s a big part of it.

I joined the military during the Vietnam War, which was very unpopular at the time. There was the draft and lower standards including, no H.S. diploma, go to jail or join. There was the popular college deferment, which pushed people to college and had unintended consequences, less higher educated recruits. For me it was a possible career, the G.I, bill and a duty to the country. Patriotism in my opinion is dying, lack of incentives, woke policies and support are ruining the military.

Again, thank you for your service. Yeah, the military never peels the onion back to see long term effects. The old volunteer service was supposed to correct the problems of Vietnam. Unfortunately, it didn’t.

You don't see other countries with this woke BS recruiting ads. That turns off some of the best young people we have. I had just graduated high school when the Vietnam WAR ended. I was seriously thinking about a career in the military, but when I went down to the local recruiting office I received a luke warm greeting and it was explained to me what was happening about force drawdown. Why do we have to repeat the same mistakes over and over?

So, you have talked about previously the way they are bringing and seemingly encouraging transgender people. Since they are not required to meet any PT standard, and are eternally non-deployable, it seems like cutting all of them would serve the needs of the army far better than lopping off the tip of the spear.
@storminscellar7207

I don’t think there are many trans in the Army as much as the Army trying to make soldiers accept the lifestyle. This has definitely hurt recruiting.

@@storminscellar7207 I agree that it is probably a small number, however I’d get rid of ALL of them before cutting a red cent to the actual warfighters. Maybe rethink the new rifle and caliber. Cut some of the lightweight machine gun projects. One that Chuck Pressburg was talking about was going to be around $8 per round for a belt fed machine gun. He was talking about how hard it was to get training ammo for 5.56 and 7.62nato before the GWOT, and how that was with ammo that is a few cents per round. It just seems like a lot of these projects are to pad the pockets in some senator’s home state as opposed to actually obtaining something that will enhance the capabilities of Joe down range. I’m sure some is needed, and I’ve never been in a position to make those big numbers calls. I was an enlisted Patriot missile operator. I know it was nothing that we were going through circuit cards that were 1970’s tech all the time at $40k each. Even at my level it seemed like we were blowing money for no good reason, but that was right after 9/11, and the faucet was on high! Thanks for the insight, Sir. It seems like everything I hear from our govt leaves me with more questions than answers, though.

Every US military drawdown ever undertaken was done completely wrong, and resulted in a lot more problems, especially a degraded military. I was on active duty during the post Vietnam drawdown, and the post Gulf War drawdown, it was disastrous in both cases, and took years to straighten out. Middle ranks were forced out, while staff positions weren't touched, resulting in a very top heavy military with no one left to fill combat positions. I fear this will be repeated.
