The bid by prosecutors at the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu has exposed the divisions between Israel's western allies. While the US and the UK have criticised the bid, France and Germany have supported the global court's mandate. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has refused to rule out support for a Congressional effort to sanction officials at the ICC, a move that would undermine the court's powers and duties. In 2002, the US had passed a law allowing the White House to "use all means necessary" to free American leaders being prosecuted at the ICC. The law was widely called the "Hague Invasion Law" and symbolised the conflict between Washington and the court. Palki Sharma tells you more.

Oh really. No one innocent person starved or died in your ears against Pakistani terrorist? Let me educate y'all. Going by the principle of complementarity on which the ICC is founded, it can only prosecute members of a state when the judiciary of that state cannot or refuses to do so. That is not the case with Isreal where the legal system is the biggest challenger of the executive arm of government. Russia doesn't have this, as everything is enslaved to Putin. Palestine is not a state, but it's accepted as a member of ICC, although it has no judiciary to prosecute Hamas. There are cases of probable war crimes currently being prosecuted in Isreal against IDF, Hamas doesn't have that. Putin doesn't. If this arrest warrant holds, the next time any democratically elected leader fights terrorism, it's actions will be managed by the court (which, lets face it, is political). Hamas has been launching rockets on civilian zones for years, where was the ICC? North Korea, Iran, these are regime that doesn't even hide their crimes. So yes, sue Netenyahu and the IDF and undermine the principle of complementarity. This will set a precedent for future arrest warrant for any leader who in their attempts to dismantle terrorism inadvertently kills, starve, or hurt civilians. Good luck India, I'm sure Pakistan is learning.

Let me educate y'all. Going by the principle of complementarity on which the ICC is founded, it can only prosecute members of a state when the judiciary of that state cannot or refuses to do so. That is not the case with Isreal where the legal system is the biggest challenger of the executive arm of government. Russia doesn't have this, as everything is enslaved to Putin. Palestine is not a state, but it's accepted as a member of ICC, although it has no judiciary to prosecute Hamas. There are cases of probable war crimes currently being prosecuted in Isreal against IDF, Hamas doesn't have that. Putin doesn't. If this arrest warrant holds, the next time any democratically elected leader fights terrorism, it's actions will be managed by the court (which, lets face it, is political). Hamas has been launching rockets on civilian zones for years, where was the ICC? North Korea, Iran, these are regime that doesn't even hide their crimes. So yes, sue Netenyahu and the IDF and undermine the principle of complementarity. This will set a precedent for future arrest warrant for any leader who in their attempts to dismantle terrorism inadvertently kills, starve, or hurt civilians. Good luck India, I'm sure Pakistan is learning.
