I am a Korean who has been discharged from the Korean army. The series of training courses that you see in this video are basic military training. After five to six weeks of training, you're going to be deployed. After deployment, you're given troops and specialties, You will continue to receive training appropriate to your convalescence. After that, you will be assigned to the military and continue your military career. Even after the end of your 20-month military career, you will be in the reserve for eight years and receive training appropriate to your convalescence twice a year for three days and two nights.

I also served in the Korean Air Force for two years. The Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force all have different lengths of service. The Army is the shortest and the Air Force is the longest. Additionally, reserve forces last for 8 years, but due to civil defense training, they are registered as reserve forces until the age of 40. Geopolitically, south korea borders China, Russia, and North Korea within a 400-mile radius, and has been in a temporary ceasefire since World War II. Here is the tragic reason why every man must join the military. To put it more extreme, about 200 people die in the Korean military every year. The reason is that they cannot adapt to military life. We remember with our bodies that peace is not given for free.

@@NicolasdeFontenayI was watching a KZfaq video earlier and the comment was "What is the stupidest thing an American has said to you?" You sir just did that very thing. It's condescending to say your English is good. Also just because you understand a word to mean something in American english doesn't mean it carries the same meaning elsewhere. For example saying the word crack in America would mean one thing while using it (spelled craic pronounced crack) in Ireland means good light hearted fun.

At the end of this series Josh mentioned there were about 20 people working behind the scenes on this edition of Korean Englisman including camera operators and editors and other members of the KE crew. On the previous visit the boys also had a Korean body guard and driver as part of the crew. I am Korean. Originally, we were taught that the muzzle of the gun should not touch the water, but it seems that the lack of knowledge is due to language differences. They are training by giving them guns that are real guns but cannot be used in combat. The actual gun appears to be stored separately.

I have been watching this group of young men since they were boys on this channel . They are truly a credit to their school , not a private school , open to any boy provided he shows ability . I truly think that national service , such as in S Korea can only benefit young people in developing maturity before any further academic/ practical training. Obviously they are only being given a taste of the full training , their fellow recruits who were also acting as translators dud a fabulous job . Thankyou for your insights , always valuable to hear from a veteran . Especially today remembering D Day .

I'm a Korean. I enlisted in the Army on July 24, 1990 and served 36 months of mandatory service. It was 36 months old at the time! What I learned in the military was an experience that money could not buy. - We are one! - Do no harm to your colleagues! - My one action saves everyone’s life! We have these experiences and live social lives. What about the order of our society? In Korea, even if you leave your wallet or car key on your laptop at a cafe and leave, No one steals it.

4:58 you are spot on about this. They select a leader for each operational unit (squad, platoon, company, battalion). The unit stops at battalion at bootcamp. Whenever we march during each exercise, these leaders would step aside, or stand towards the front. You also have separate people designated to carry a flag. Your squad leader specifically leads the march towards the canteen (They don't really serve much other purposes from what I remember). Sometimes during larger scale exercises where leaders' roles aren't necessary, they are mixed in with the rest of the conscripts.

The rifles they use are 'deactivated' old M16s, which has the bolt and firing mechanism taken out so they could be smashed and thrown around. But when I was in boot camp, they gave us live brand-new K2C1 assault rifles we had to use in the firing range. And if you handeled them too roughly during assult training, sand, pebbles and raindrops would get inside, The zeroed in ironsights would get inaccurate again and made cleaning much more difficult. I wanted to get good scores on the range, so took extra care of my rifle and managed to get perfect marks later, but there were some recruits who couldn't hit anything because they half-assed the maintenance. Back then I thought it was just lazyness on the firearms drill staff''s part, but looking back, it might have been intentional.

That is where them famous 'Rooftop Koreans' came from! Koreans do not play around. Funny how Roscoe went from discovering K-Pop with fancy handsome boys like BTS to this cold reality of Korea. Not to mention BTS members are currently in military service too. I found out that there is few exceptions where you can get exempted from this conscription and one of the few ways is to win gold medal in Olympics/Asian Games/Asian Cup(soccer). There was one special occasion back in 2002 World Cup (Hosted by Korea and Japan) where Korea reached semi-finals for the first time their history after challenging over 5 decades. This was possible because Korean football(soccer) team had never reached out of group stage to the knock out tournament. A legend Park Ji-Sung who played for Manchester United, an icon, an idol to this day to many Korean youngsters was part of this team who got excused from the service. It's quite fun to dig the history of South Korea. You can find many unknown interesting records that surely draws you in easily if you are a person fond of this amazing country.

실제 쟤들처럼 했다간 뒈지게 밟힘. 총구에 물/진흙 다 들어갔기 때문 지금은 구타가 많이 없어졌지만 내가 군대 있을 땐 그냥 조교가 옆에서 막 밟음. `이 새끼야 총구가 다 막히고 나면 어떻게 총을 쏠 거야. 정신 안 차려 이 개새끼야~ 총을 네 몸처럼 아끼란 말이야 ~ ` 하면서 이후 훈련에서 열외 되어 진짜 하늘 노래질 때까지 고통을 받게 됨 ;

I randomly found your channel through these reactions, very interesting. Makes me curious what my father would have thought of this series (he went to officer school for the Italian Alpini). I think if you consider they were thrown in with kids that had been there a while, during some of the hardest days, each one of them did great. I love Bobby cause he's the sweetest but also a rugby lad which I think helped him here: keep on pushing, and if you're injured find any way you can to come through for the team.

There seems to be a difference between the MOPP training of the Korean Army and Navy. In the case of the Army, detoxification training (how to cope with contamination), wearing protective clothing, and CS gas training are conducted, but the Navy seems to be conducting more simplified training.

Thank you for your insight and commentary, Roscoe. So interesting on so many levels and the British guys are right to show much respect to the Korean guys who will be doing this camp for another 5 or so weeks and then deployment until the finish of their service.

I am also a person who served in the Republic of Korea Navy, but what is interesting is that almost all Koreans who watch videos and leave comments reveal where they served in the Korean army and write comments. Oh, and as the South Korean military's anti-seizure weapon changed from the M16 to the domestic K2, the weapons they hold during training are actually firearms that are discarded due to poor condition. Of course, the inside of the firearm is filled with soil, so it cannot operate normally.

13:15 It is a real M16A1k (Made from korea standard model). Your saying is right. It used in vietnam war. But S. Korea has developed different model called K-2. So it was abandoned. But it resurrected as a cs-gun. But is still a gun. If clean and inject some new bolt? Then 1 of 2(or 3) will still be useful.

They also have military experience show back in the days (like 4~5 years ago) with actual British Major Its a different point of view from these episodes, not really experience from newby but with full time soldiers(at least more than a year in training of military service) That episode is good fun too :)

I grew up with fire arms. Some recruits never held a gun, but, when we were through, those ladies were TOUGH!! I lost contact with them, after A school I went to a two year school of Intelligence Specialists Image Analysis training. These British men and their mentors did very good. You know who Armand reminds me of, that guy in Full Metal Jacket, the guy who was always smiling. 😊 I wonder if they get to keep their uniforms?

Wait for the last one! 👀
