Saw these and Delta while in USN service in the early 1990's. Very competent men who do very dangerous things in very dangerous and hostile environments. Be glad that they are on our side.

I remember when Deltas were training in south Texas they were practicing taking various buildings an old court house an old sheriffs department a bank building and various other things around like some of the refineries and/or chemical plants in the area I think they did some kind of training to boarding a ship I believe it was the giant military transport ship that used the port as one of its pick up drop off spots in the port any way watching them tear ass around the city day and night in their little birds was so impressive very loud powerful skillfully piloted machines so so low

These are military version of civilian helicopter known as MD500 helicopters. They used to be called Hughes 500 helicopters before Hughes sold the helicopter division to MD Helicopters. Boeing I believed owned the company before the current company. I have flown these helicopters and they are fun to fly them. They are pilot’s Helicopters.

The Hawaii stuff was filmed at or off of, Bellows Air Force Station, Waimanalo, Hawaii. In 1991. While stationed in San Antoino, I used to run the track around the entire field. It was paved and at 2 points, there was a stop light warning joggers of approaching aircraft. The only time I saw the red light lit, I stopped and watch 2 MiG29s taxiing in. They has big NASA markings.

My first ever job after leaving school was helping rebuild one of these for tuna boats, they used them to spot the schools for the boat. Have never lost their spot as my favourite helicopter

That little chopper is pretty cool . Those people who get to ride on the outside have to experience a thrill like no other. With drone tech at its current level , and with some thought , those mini choppers could be rethought. Cool stuff ! :O)

Many many years ago I was involved in the external seat thing on the little bird OH6 Some Spec Ops people wanted to try it so we went and got some aluminum I beam and 4 boat seats from the local boat dealer. It worked. Just took some tweaking. Fun ride out there.

I served in US Army Special Forces (Vietnam 2 tours) but never flew in one of those little birds. Only flew in UH1 (Huey) medevac helicopters.

The tier system has nothing to do with training and specialization... it is a funding line and priority of funds. Which incidentally has been done away with many years ago. Cheers!

These are not little choppers. They are known as "Little Birds" and are assigned to what was once known as Task Force 160. Now more commonly known as 160th SOAR. The Night Stalkers. NSDQ

Typically the little birds have folding rotors before they're put on board fix wing aircraft. However, in combat they can be operational inside of a half an hour after landing.

In Vietnam many were shot down, however typically they would hit a rice paddy, the skids would break off and they would roll to a stop with little to no injuries to the air crew.

Thats a big negative. There is just 1 Regiment that fly these. 160th. Now Nightstalkers play with that SOF unit budget. We have lasers for that.

@@joependleton6714 See how the cheap Russian Lancet drones are wrecking havoc on German Leopard 2 MBTs and Yankee Bradleys. Those little birds even if they fly low and manage to evade Russian drones will be torn to shreds by Pansir S1 units. Little Birds only look cool in Black Hawk down.

@@dyong888 the United States military uses thermal imagers in addition to night enhanced systems. Drones will show up remarkably well in the dark. Also, those birds fly at over 150 miles an hour. Yeah, try to keep up with them.
