the amount of force and strain that the gundoor has to handle, firstly the force and pressure from that gatling gun firing and then of course windforces blowing and tearing on it during full flight, it has to pop open and close right back, most impressive feat of engineering making this rather "miniscule" part of the entire jet possible.

Muchas gracias.

Did F35i's successfully attack in areas covered by S300/400 without getting detected? YES, repeatedly. Has any F35 been shot down by S300/400 so far? NO, not once. just that simple. Therefore I don't see how "S400 Sams eat F35's for breakfast" Otherwise, I wouldn't doubt anything else you mentioned as I simply don't see any proof to agree or dispute on. Also, it is a well-known question regarding the effectiveness of the S400 capability in detecting any stealth jets, given they quoted a 600km of effective range.

If you are flying any aircraft into a SAM situation, you have been left without other options. The pilots learn to train against targeting systems and how to fly somewhat damaged, if no f35s were shot down there’s a huge portion of talent to be given toward intel and the pilots. But knowing the technology is always changing and parts on these systems could improve, you don’t wanna poke the bear.

Minor correction.. the F35A is not the “smallest variant”, it’s the same size as the B.. the C is indeed larger than them though in terms of width and very little in height.
@solitarysolitude_

I feel like the B variant is smaller than the A vriant right? They don't have the same width, the B variant is kinda smaller and might be lighter than the others.
@Inspadave
@Inspadave 2 жыл бұрын
The only significant difference in dimensions between the three models is that the C model has a wingspan of 13.1 meters whilst the A and B models have a span of 10.7 meters.
@carpingnyland8518
@carpingnyland8518 2 жыл бұрын
In essence, the A and B are nearly identical in size (small differences in the engine nozzle), while the C has a notably larger wing, both in width and length. This allows for lower approach speeds needed for carrier landings. Despite their similar sizes, the B is substantially heavier (~2,500 lbs) than the A due mostly to the STOVL system (ducted fan, articulating nozzle, etc.) It also has a much lower fuel capacity and payload than the A. The C is the heaviest due to the larger wings, reinforced landing gear, arrestor hook, etc. Basically, the same disadvantages that every navilized version of an aircraft has.

It’s a very rare occasion that a gun could even work in a modern dogfight, but the fact is that it does happen, albeit once in a thousand sorties. Then there is pilot state of mind. The F4 Phantom was designed without a gun because we had brought online the latest and greatest air to air missiles, and the planes designers felt it was too expensive and unnecessary. The first time a missile failed or the pilot fired them all, the pilots expressed horror at being vulnerable and pilot morale plummeted. A gun was added, and it simply has been a dead issue ever since. The issue may be revisited in the future, but for now, all fighters, even the invulnerable F22, are designed with a gun. I feel there’s no need to revisit the issue. You’re not going to change the pilots minds, and it’s their lives on the line anyway. To gun or not to gun will be an issue soon dealt with, as the military wants to built the sixth generation fighter with a new optional pilot. I prefer it built with no cockpit to save huge amounts of money, space, and an ability to fly as no human could bare. The future will be very interesting, no doubt! Exciting, don’t you think?

the problem is that when two modern jets merge, one or both of them has to die. There is no extending away. there is no escape. It doesn't cost much at all to implement a cannon with a few hundred rounds of ammo. The jet, especially one as heavy and bulky as the F35, isn't going to perform particularly better without it. There's no reason to rob the pilot of the only weapon that will work when two jets are within a km or so of one another.

@tobyihli9470 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheGrammargestapo1 I agree for the most part, except the point you made about it’s weight. I researched that, and the guns weight is significant. There’s a whole bunch a plane can do with that amount of freed up weight and space. At least a bomb or two in weight, and a decent amount of avionics with the freed up space. One problem. Big problem. Pilot moral would plummet if they don’t get a gun for their last resort effort at living. Say what you will it makes no difference. It’s a dead issue. It doesn’t matter what anyone believes, the pilots don’t feel safe without one. I tend to agree, even though what I think doesn’t matter. Usually the word, “stigma,’ is a negative connotation, but it doesn’t have to be. For instance, like a plane without a gun is stigmatized, right or wrongly, as being vulnerable by the pilots, likewise, any jet presented to the US Navy for consideration as the latest backbone of the fleet, like the F18 is, that doesn’t have two engines, is stigmatized as a risk to the life of the pilot by the Navy brass. It’s nearly impossible to get past the stigma, even though the single engine F35 has only “crashed” in the true sense of the word only once, for reasons unknown, and that only after seventeen (17) years in service. The single engine state of the F35 is the biggest reason the Navy hasn’t jumped at stocking the fleet with F35’s. Frankly, I don’t know why the military doesn’t just make a two engine F35?
@koekiejam18
@koekiejam18 2 жыл бұрын
1. The F-35 has only one engine because it is a “budget-aircraft” its exported to alot of western countries and adding another engine wouldve genuinely increased costs by a serious margin. (Also you cant really chance that single engine design aftewards because if you look at the way planes are made they have a big part of then designed around the engine. 2. The gun serves an incredibly useful factor which nobody here has gone further indepth on. But that is aerial support for ground troops. A burst of 20mil could be detrimental for the survival of ground troops in contact. The f-35 actually shows that it follows this doctrine by coming equiped with a 25Mil cannon which is more usefull against ground targets compared to the 20MM which is better for aerial targets. 3 there are certain manouvers that let you escape out of a dogfight situation. Keep in mind that even a missile like an AMRAAM has only a 4 Nm range against a target that is flying away at high speed at a low level. Creating 4 Nm of distance between you and an opponent isnt impossible if you are in a supersonic jet 4 putting a multi barreled gatling gun that also needs space for ammunition on a plane is a serious design factor. (The F/A-18 has a long nose to fit both the gun and the radar, the A-10 is even designed around the gun it has) altough there are examples of planes later receiving the ability to carry gunpods like the AV-8b harrier, F-35 (some versions) or the L-39ZA

If the A and C models of this aircraft had thrust factoring like the F-16 Vista, I would probably sleep better at night. It would allow for much better control in post stall flight would be able to pull a lot more G’s. Yes 15 under very extreme circumstances could pull over 15 G’s. I can think of one instance off the top my head where it had to pull 12 Gs or it would’ve run the risk of hitting the Iraqi desert floor.

A10 2000-3700 rounds a minute. F35 3300 rounds a minute. So the f35s shoots faster most times, I’m pretty sure the a10s shots are bigger tho. We shouldn’t even be comparing because there 2 totally different kinds of aircraft, the f35s just better.

@twoarc7293
@twoarc7293 3 жыл бұрын
The two planes are built for different purposes, the F-35 is multipurpose the A-10 is air to ground anti vehicle, the F-35 costs more to maintain and needs a paved runway to function, the A-10 is cheap and effective with great fuel efficiency and can land on a dirt road covered in razor blades, the F-35 has a smaller gun than the A-10, the A-10 flies slower than the F-35 to maximize its airtime to allow the pilot to acquire targets as he or she plummets towards the earth, either way the F-35 is not replacing the A-10 warthog nor will it ever because the army won’t let the Air Force retire it, and the army practically owns the air force indirectly

so the lifter turbine isn't a dual purpose device? i figured it'd be used for a pre compression,, like a turbo, otherwise its this big object inside the jet that does nothing of value except in moments when it needs to stall mid flight. at least use it to create lift mid flight, or reverse it's direction to push a jet downwardly in to confuse an enemy pilot
