New evidence has emerged in the F-B-I's assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas in 1993.
Federal Marshalls have attained and released a videotape revealing agents being given permission to lob potentially flammable tear gas at the compound, a substance the F-B-I has repeatedly denied using.
President Clinton is calling for an independent inquiry over previously undisclosed evidence.
The infra-red videotape, showing aerials of the Koresh compound, was recorded during the early hours of April 19th, 1993 - the final days of the armed siege on the cult near Waco.
That's when F-B-I agents lobbed incendiary tear-gas canisters at a concrete bunker adjacent to the Davidians' compound.
Hours after the canisters were fired, the wooden compound 50 yards away erupted in flames.
Cult leader David Koresh and some 80 followers died during the inferno -- some from gunshot wounds, others from the fire.
U-S marshalls seized the evidence on Wednesday night, after being informed by the F-B-I that new information had been discovered in the files of the agency's hostage rescue team at Quantico, Virginia.
An F-B-I source has confirmed that agents can be heard on the tape asking for and receiving permission to lob an incendiary tear gas cannister at a concrete bunker.
But the source says the tape does not contradict the F-B-I's position that it did not start the fire at the Davidians' wooden compound.
The fire started several hours later and 50 yards away from the bunker.
A presidential spokesman said that he would like to see an independent investigator look into the F-B-I's conduct during the incident.
Attorney General Janet Reno is reportedly poised to appoint one.
