| Chicago, USA, July 13, 2019 - Hosts USA defeated Brazil in five sets 3-2 (25-21, 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-9) in the second semifinal of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Saturday in Chicago.
USA progress to the final on Sunday, when last year’s bronze medallists will take on reigning champions Russia.
USA first defeated France before winning against Russia in their second match of the Finals pool phase to qualify for the semifinals as the top ranked team in Pool A. Brazil on the other hand first lost to Poland in Pool B and then defeated Iran to progress. They finished second to Poland in Pool B.
Head-to-Head
- United States and Brazil met each other on 76 previous occasions in world level major tournaments. USA won 27 times, Brazil 49.
- World level major tournaments are World Championship, World League, Olympic Games, Grand Champions Cup, World Cup and Volleyball Nations League.
- Brazil (49 wins against USA) are one win shy of becoming the first team to beat another side 50 times in world level major tournaments.
