Greyhounds are defined as the fastest dog breed in the world, a tall, muscular, smooth-coated. Greyhounds are a separate breed from other related sighthounds, such as the Italian greyhound.
The Greyhound is a gentle and intelligent breed whose combination of long, powerful legs, deep chest, flexible spine, and slim build allows it to reach average race speeds exceeding 64 kilometres per hour (40 mph). The Greyhound can reach a full speed of at least 21.3 m/s (77 km/h) (47 Mph) as recorded by Shall Not on the Richmond straight track on April 29, 2023 for the second sectional between 110m and 220m.

Bolt improved upon his second 100 m world record of 9.69 with 9.58 seconds in 2009 - the biggest improvement since the start of electronic timing. He has twice broken the 200 metres world record, setting 19.30 in 2008 and 19.19 in 2009.

Seen a greyhound run 80m on a sand race track in 5.036s (timing with light gates), so 5,8s for 100m can indeed be done. This grey that I saw could probably do it on grass circuit, which is a bit faster surface! :) Top greyhounds can run 280m races from standing start in ~16,5s, which is average pace of about 61km/h -> top speed at around 100m point must be over 70km/h (~19,5m/s) for that to make sense :)

I got several sources saying that the unofficial top speed of the greyhound is about 80 km/h ~ 50mph. The official recorded speed was 72 km/h, or 75km/h depending on other sources (46.6mph). Knowing that the greyhound dog have an incredible ability of acceleration in short distances, he reaches this kind of speed early in the race. This simulation, with a time of 5.80s over 100m, claims that the greyhound has covered the distance in an average speed of 62.07km/h (38.57mph). According to the information I mentionned in my comment, I find the time of 5.80s over 100m for this breed of dog totally achievable. @@Deepak28262 Maybe you're right for the fact that the greyhound can't go easily sub 6 with a standing start. But I don't think as you said that with the same conditions as Usain Bolt (standing start, reaction time, perfect shape, fastest dog among the Greyhound breed etc...), he would only run 8.50s. If my estimations are wrong, I would agree to make him run the distance in a time over 6 seconds, but not close to the 7 second barrier. If you look at the example at the Japanese Show : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNOiY5tmztyofXk.html where they timed a greyhound (I think it is correct me if I'm wrong), you see that they timed him in 7.53s, and in my simulation I chose to put a hypothetical "Fastest Dog among the GreyHound Breed" in an ideal race, where the greyhound runs as fast as he is really capable of (just like Usain Bolt did in Berlin 2009. Maybe the time of 5.80s is unbeleavable for many of you, but I don't think in an ideal race he won't be able to go sub 6.3s.

In humans, males are significantly faster than females, but with greyhounds, the racing results are the same even though the males are musclier with longer legs. It just shows how the double suspension gallop is so efficient that the beast doesn't even need to be very muscly to propel itself.
