Hello, congratulations on your very interesting videos. I would like to use a car simulator pedal board (using only two pedals) as a pedal board for simulated flight with P3D. I saw that some boards can be recognised as "controls" of the aircraft. Which board would you recommend? Thanks in advance for your attention

Thank you so much. If by "Controls" you mean Axis' (Rudder, Aileron, etc.), then yes there are many cards. One example is the BU0836A 12-bit joystick interface by Leo Bodnar: www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=94&products_id=204&zenid=ecad6d3e44fe314feae7bce803c20cb6 This card is very reliable and used by many simulation gear manufacturers.

Great video, thank you. I would like to build a nosewheel tiller for the Zibo Mod 737 in X-plane. Can you recommend specific electronic components and advise how to wire and set up? I would prefer not to solder anything. I assume this would require a rotary potentiometer and an HID. I'm good at modeling, machining and 3D printing, but electronics not so much.
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius 2 жыл бұрын
This is a fun little project. Make sure to understand the specifications of the Zibo Mod and follow recommendations. If it seeks an Axis in the simulator, I recommend the Leo Bodnar BU0836A Card, but there are also good products offered by Desktop Aviator. If you look at this link for Leo Bodnar (How to use Tab), you will see the Wiring Diagrams: www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=204 It's very simple and straight forward. The Leo Bodnar is plug and play and will be immediately detected by your computer and the Simulator. Wire in (amzn.to/3DBMppv) the potentiometer and go to Devices and Printers in Windows, then look at the Game Controller settings of the Leo Bodnar card. Rotate the potentiometer (amzn.to/3dxzpqs) and make sure you see the the increase and decrease of the setting. Once you verify this, go into the simulator and assign that axis to your Zibo Mod and start taxiing ✈️Enjoy!

@@joshuamarius Hi Joshua, thanks very much for the reply. I'm sorry I didn't see it until now because the email notification got caught by one of my filters (outsmarted myself by trying to organize/automate my email 😖). I purchased an Arduino Leonardo, and with help from Paul at the Fun of Flying channel, managed to write the code. I changed the settings in the Zibo EFB so that now the rudder pedals give me just the realistic +/- 7 degrees of nosewheel control, but the potentiometer pivots it through its entire range for taxiing. Yesterday I made most of the pieces for the tiller, which will use a 5-inch handwheel that I had in my boxes of misc parts. All I have left to do is to finish machining the shaft and assemble. So far so good!

Dan, thanks for the comment. The project is built with panels and Hardware from Aviatek similar to the following: aviatek.com/collections/all/products/citation-mustang-trainer - You can purchase the entire Mustang assembly, or the panels and the G1000 individually. The great thing about them is that they can help you with plugins, tips, software and ideas so you can use it with Flight1 software or what's available in X-Plane.

On the first board you showed it had wires with wide ends on them that looked like they would slip right onto the standard terminals of switches without soldering. Is this correct? And if so is there a term for these wires I can use to find them?

I was never able to find a video of yours that talked about connecting the Arduino Mega to your Mustang. Can you elaborate on the use of interfaces? Thanks
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius 3 жыл бұрын
This would be a long video because we are able to complete this in prepar3d, FSX and also X-Plane. It's more challenging in prepar3d/FSX because the aircraft from Flight1 needs additional code to work properly with the hardware. It is a lot easier to interface in X-plane however. There are many tutorials on how to interface on YT - basically you would use the Aviatek connector which is what I consider an Upgrade to MobiFlight. You then program the actions (Input/Output) and how you wish to pick them up (Keyboard shortcuts, offsets, controls, etc).

I have a related question: what would you suggest to do for connecting 18 usb devices like these? My panels freeze or disconnect… Thanks and happy flying!
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius 2 ай бұрын
Some of these USB Devices use quite a bit of power so you will need multiple USB HUBS. Most people cheap out and find the $20-$40 on Amazon and order. You have to get the good ones with a good power supply with a lot of juice. 4A-5A etc., but these cost in the range of $60-$100. You should be able to split 18 devices within 3 of these for more stability; in some case you may even use 2. This guy has been very good to me: amzn.to/3JJoASh

Looking at the specifications, it supports 16 rotary encoder inputs. It also has an output of +5V - 500mA so you can wire up LEDs but you will not be able to interact with them. For that, look into the interfacing cards: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g512q5hlysWypIE.html

First off this, and your other videos are very well done and informative. I am very new to the sim build and would like to build my own sim from scratch. I have done a lot of searching and I can't seem to find info on how everything behind the sim controls gets connected. Basically, I'm trying to understand how all the buttons, lights, displays, etc. get connected to and from the computer and what software is involved. Example: I put all the wiring to and Arduino. The Arduino Outputs either USB or Ethernet. It is from this point that I do not understand were and how that gets to the computer and back to the devices. What software is used to recognize the individual components and how does that tie into the flight sim software like MS202 or Xplane. I really wish somebody would do some good videos or a tutorial that is literally a start to finish on the complete sim. Maybe someone has. I just haven't found it. Any ideas?
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The two methods of interfacing with the simulator are either through HID devices which are plug and Play, such as your joystick or pedals (Leo Bodnar) or Arduino and Mobiflight. For the Leo Bodnar cards for example, once you plug them into the computer the simulator picks them up as a device with multiple buttons. If you connect a switch to button one then you just configure what button one should do in the simulator. For Arduino and Mobiflight, this is called interfacing, and MobiFlight does all the work for you. Once you download the software you will flash the Arduino with the MobiFlight firmware, and then in MobiFlight program all of the buttons. There's tons on videos on this. MobiFlight is then run on the background, you start up the simulator and it will send the commands you programmed to the simulator: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prlofqqXvriyoo0.htmlsi=ppnkH6dDyzgjEegj In MobiFlight your will see two tabs, Input (to configure switches, pushbuttons, encoders, etc) and output (to configure LEDs, etc).

can you talk more about software and which ones you use for which encoders
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius Жыл бұрын
Oh jeez, I replied right after you left the comment but it did not save for some reason :( For encoders, if you want no programming at all, take a look at my other video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mamcaseovai3cn0.html - Leo Bodnar has their own free software. What most people are going to go after is an Arduino and MobiFlight with FSUIPC. MobiFlight reads the variables from the simulator and programs the Arduino (Both inputs and outputs) and FSUIPC helps provide additional interfacing with the Simulator. I will be making some videos on this soon.

Remember that it is a two way road: Device Interface Card. So you have to consider both, not just the board. If you look at my other videos, I review some panels and Landing gear kit where the Toggle switches have built in screw-in Terminals, example: amzn.to/3Qb30Kk On the Interface / HID Card side, I also show in my videos how to use Screw Terminal Blocks or Shields so you do not have to solder. Refer to the following videos although I recommend you watch them all: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g512q5hlysWypIE.htmlsi=ugZ6eEB2ALEfdILG kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l8mnnNOe2dfciXU.htmlsi=lnZ_J8SN_uAasQaC Soon I will be producing a video of Wiring. The Leo Bodnar BBI-32 has little spring loaded captive ports and requires no soldering. If you get a set of jumper wires with male at one end and female at the other the female ends will plug onto the pins of the rotary encoders and the male ends to the board. You can also buy simple pushbuttons that already have wires on them. Personally I wouldn't bother with duplicating displays or lights, all of that stuff can be seen directly on the simulator, you just want to be able to avoid having to use the mouse.

Hey sorry if this is a idiotic question( i have almost no clue on how wiring works)but can the usb encoder card in the video work with a on off on/(on) off (on) switch with the same wires that's included with the package and how? Thanks if you answer my question
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius 2 жыл бұрын
No such thing as an idiotic question. If you have a link to the switch that would greatly help me but it sounds like you have an SPDT switch. If you look at the wires included with the PC Encoder Card in this video, you will notice a pair which is white and blue. White will be your common (you may see it labeled as COM/GND). An SPDT switch has 3 connections, one for GND and the other two for the switch's on positions. Using two connectors with two pairs of cables (4 total); The GNDs can all be connected together but one has to go to the GND connector on the switch, and then your two blues will go to the remaining connectors, separately, one blue per connector. On the software side, this will be seen by the computer or simulator as two buttons.

How many usb encoder cards can you connect to one pc? Would they conflict with each other, also is there a way to chain them together if conflict is an issue?
@joshuamarius
@joshuamarius 2 жыл бұрын
Very good questions. You can connect as many as you physically can through USB resources available (ports and power) and there will be no conflict as each card works independently, and creates it's own set of inputs. Different manufacturers may allow you to chain them together so check for accessories when you purchase them, however if you were to chain them at some point they may require an individual power source or a separate connection as just a single USB cable will not carry enough current to power several cards, and the devices connected to them.
