I cannot LIKE this video enough. I bought the Uber MIC last year and my performance with it was inconsistent because I never learned how to properly use it. I never figured out what all the features did and my setting was always on the heart so it was always up to chance which side I would be speaking into on a given day. Also I thought I would need to be speaking into the mic from the top down. This video will help me make much higher quality videos in the future. Thank you!

Because I own a number of professional mikes, long pre-dating USB, I bought an M-Audio interface when I moved from analogue recording to digital. I was impressed by the performance, gain, and noise floor, plus I was able to keep my favourite old analogue mikes. A win - win. If I were starting up today I might be tempted by the USB mikes, but I am not impressed by the quality of the sound. This one is versatile, trying to be all things to all men (and women), but even so, I think I would still go the route of an interface plus quality studio gear. Thanks to Booth Junkie for testing this stuff out so we don't have to. You are very fair; I value your reviews. Thanks.

That's nice, and a good Pad Save on the notation of the port in the based of the Uber Mic. What's crazy too is that the markets that many of these mics are segmented towards are lined with (no so) disposable income. What I mean there is that if a shock mount were ALSO available, even for say 1-4 to - 1/3 the cost of the mic, guess what? It'd get bought too. Was the general weight of the mic also "solid?" For those that are curious of what I'm referring to, decouple your Yeti from the "SoundMagnet" base and see what the "heft" of the actual mic is. Also appreciate your tack on the general "futureproofing". While everyone wants everything "now, now, now" everyone also wants that which is acquired "now" to last "forever, forever, forever." :) Good stuff, Mike.

My Blue Snowball mic is fading on me, so I might head down to Guitar Center and pick one of these up for $99. I use a Neewer brand mic arm that comes off of a shelf that is over my screen, so I don't have to worry about a shock mount. I used to game with gaming headsets, but years ago switch to a set of Sennheizer HD485 headphones and this Blue Snowball and gaming has been SO much more enjoyable. Hopefully this enjoyment continues with the Sennheizer HD598SE cans and the M-Audio Uber Mic. ^_^

I have a Yeti (non-pro), and my voice range is similar to Mike's. For about a year I've been tweaking my EQ settings trying to bring out my natural bass tones. Finally, I watched Mike's Yeti reviews and discovered the Yeti lacks a good response below 130Hz. My advice, avoid buying a USB mic. You can find affodrable quality used xlr mics & interfaces.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for a starter mic. You get pretty good package and when you want to upgrade, you can just sell the whole thing and use the money to pay part of the upgraded set. If you get this second hand, it will be practically free in long run because you can probably sell it for the same value. One part was missing from the review: is the DA-converter okay for listening the audio from the computer? Is the quality good enough to use this for general use audio output or do you need to swap cables if you need to listen the computer audio (e.g. during mixing) using the same set of headphones?

Mike, is one of the USB mics that is apart of this series going to be the Sennheiser MK 4 Digital? If so can you show or give more attention to the proprietary Hirose ST to USB or Lightning cables? Its the most annoying handicap they could possibly implement, and might be worst thing about the mic.....

Hi! Your videos are awesome! I have this mic and there is some strange thing. As soon as I start DAW on laptop (without charger) or PC, mic starts buzzing a bit in headphones and on recording. Nothing else connected. Random DAWs (Waveform, ProTools, OneArtist, Audacity). Drivers installed. Any advise? :)

Mike, if you took the cables off the back of the mic it looks like you could fit the stand on the back. It's probably easier for them to eliminate the washer on the stand and make it smooth like 90% of other mic stands. Shame it's not XLR as well, but I'm wondering if there's a generic USB to XLR box you could get?

Strange thing with prices. I compared prices of items on Amazon (links from video description) with prices in local stores. Usually local stores in my country (Russia) is about 40-70% more expensive than Amazon. And with M-Audio UBER microphone that is: 99$ on Amazon vs. 165$ and more in local stores. But with headphones it's different. Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones costs 225.99$ on Amazon, but in local stores they costs from 126$ to 177$. Here's a link to the stores aggregator with prices in russian rubles: market.yandex.ru/product--naushniki-sennheiser-hd-380-pro/4768680. As you can see, currently there are prices from 8270 ₽ to 11590 ₽. The exchange rate USD/RUB is currently (December 2018) ~66.50 rubles for US dollar. How is it possible that Amazon sells item with price almost x2 higher than local store in far away country?

I may be completely wrong with this, but seeing that this Uber mic closely resembles the Razer Seiren, my suspicion is that Razer discountinued the original Seiren (they're now promoting an X and Elite models) and sold the patent to M-Audio. I used to own the first Razer Seiren, which sounded bad but nevertheless was better than the Yeti.
@fret55155
@fret55155 6 жыл бұрын
Most likely the other way around actually. It's the same with the razer ripsaw, it was designed by another company, but razer has a lot more market share and a much bigger name so they oem it out to razer and both make more money in the end working together rather than alone. Here's a pic between the razer ripsaw and an avermedia capture device: i.imgur.com/bC45nOi.jpg Notice how they have the exact same pcb minus the color and extra foam the razer has on it.

@kirbymurdstone4925
@kirbymurdstone4925 6 жыл бұрын
When you put it into omni mode, The "physics"of how the mic picks up sound is changed and it has consequences. The big two are, first, No proximity effect in omni mode. So the mic tends to sound thin especially when closer than 4-5 feet. Second, in omni mode you pick up more of the booth, even as good as Mike's booth is, the early reflections still change the character of the sound. The only time you would use omni mode (with any microphone scenario ) is If you want to hear the acoustic "signature" of the room. That is rarely the case in voice over.
@MyShowbizName
@MyShowbizName 6 жыл бұрын
I see. I was just thinking multiple people recording podcasts with just one microphone, but I guess it should only be used for recording atmosphere and such. Sounded pretty good on the figure of 8 mode so two people recording a podcast across a table, would do a decent job.

@johnjackson8902
@johnjackson8902 6 жыл бұрын
dinkyflix That's just how a lot of these USB mics are. They're made with really really cheap components, tiny little capsules, and cheap preamp and converter. But they're sold at the price of quality XLR condenser mics because Blue, Razer, and the other companies market them as studio quality (which is a complete laugh) to people like KZfaqrs and streamers who have probably never seen an actual microphone or been in a studio (the later you can't really blame them for though). The Samson Meteor and some of the Yetis I've heard seem to try to offset they're tinny-ness by adding extra low end colouration which actually makes it sound worse. This is also bad because it feeds the popular misconception that boomy means professional sound (basically the proximity effect being on all the time) but end up sounding kind of muffled or muddy instead. Basically these companies advertise anything better than an inline webcam/laptop mic as being studio quality so people fall for it and think that they're gooding good gear.

Another tinny over priced USB that's the quality of something about $40. It's much more affordable than the Yeti Pro (for $270 you can get actual pro level gear), but $119 USD won't go as far, but you can still get the $40 Behringer UMC22 and a decent used budget mic.
