The reason there's no Karasuno cheer *right now* is because they're not so popular yet and there's also no cheer squad from their school. The only ones supporting them are the 2 alumni guys from the adults team, and Yachi (little cutie). Some times there's the Grandpa Ukai and his students, some old patrons but yeah. When they get popular, they'll get a cheer squad and a cheer :)

I'm not actually 100% sure so don't quote me on this, but I feel like the fact that player's families rarely show up has a lot to do with the work culture in Japan being Fucking Brutal. Like, the games and tournaments happen on the middle of the day, so their families would need to deliberately take time off work to attend the tournaments, and that's *really* heavily discouraged in Japan.

Isn’t that everywhere though? I don’t think it’s a “Japan work culture,” thing, it’s an anywhere that has a standard 9-5PM 40 hour work week thing. Where I’m at in the US, games/recitals/performances etc usually happen after 5PM-ish, or on weekends/holidays so parents can commute to watch and also take their kids there as well if need be. Ive seen teams at my school get excused a period or two early in order to travel, but that was pretty rare. This is what also confused me about Haikyuu, like do they pull the kids out of class to play? The Johzenji kids were talking about how they wouldn’t be in class should they have won against Karasuno, so I was kinda shocked anyone was at the games period (apart from retired people, school staff, or super dedicated parents/neighborhood folk). Like not many working people are free any given weekday at noonish/afternoon

@jazeroliversy673 3 жыл бұрын
@@chaeyoungsbestie414 man Japan work culture is just diff. It’s a well documented thing. Just do a little bit of research and you see how intensely overworked they are. There’s even a culture of needing to pretend to be busy until your shift ends even when you’ve already finished your work. Also, I’ve been pulled out of classes to play before. Usually games are on the weekends in my experience, but when there are games scheduled on weekdays, me and my teammates get pulled out of class.

Just a quick refresher of the teams: 1) Karasuno: We know them already, the main team. As for the people on the bench that you don't know, they're second years who we don't really see a whole lot of until later. 2) Shiratorizawa: The team many people think is going to win the whole tournament. This team is the one that Hinata and Kageyama visited back in episode 1 of season 2. They also have Ushiwaka, who is the left-handed spiker you mentioned. He also played for the national Under-19 youths team, representing japan. basically, he is very good. 3) Aoba Johsai: Also referred to as Seijoh, this is Oikawa's team. They are the only team people see having a chance at beating Shiratorizawa. 4) Date Tech: Their cheer is "Go, go, let's go, Let's go, Date Ko", with "Ko" meaning "Tech". 5) Nekoma: Karasuno's rival team in a different region. They play their own prefecture tournament in Tokyo, Hoping that Karasuno will win their prefecture so the two can play each other at nationals. This is Kenma's team. 6) Fukurodani: This is Bokuto's team. We don't know much about them at this point in the story other than the fact that they are REALLY good. If I missed anything, other people are free to add more (Without spoiling, of course)

The backstory about the manager of Johzenji was that she was a third year which means that soon she would graduate and stop being a manager. The thing is the team was different before (her generation, when their slogan was indeed "Simplicity and Fortitude") but now there are only 2nd year players in the team and they have a very different vibe than the original team she knew, so that bittersweet change is what the author wanted to kinda explain. In general, any type of high school team (voleyball, baseball, etc.) has that special thing, cuz it's not forever and teams change and that can be kinda heartbreaking. A lot of sports anime talk about this issue cuz it's so common and part of the Japanese sports culture.

18:35 - hinata WAS being a good sport when he was subbed out. aone & the other dateko players were talking about how although hinata's an offensive powerhouse on the court with kageyama, once kageyama's off the court, there are a lot of other players who are better all-around (at serving and defense) than hinata is. so he was subbed out for narita, a second year (#8), who spends a lot of time matched up with suga during practice. and other karasuno players on the bench were expecting hinata to be impatient to get back on the court, and he is, but he also said that he's impatient for EVERYTHING -- including practicing, and watching people better than him. that surprised most everyone except for aone, who understands that hinata is more aware of his own shortcomings than anyone else. hinata was taking being benched as a learning experience.

The reason most of the families are absent for these games would most likely be because of how japan isn’t really known for having free time for workers, so most of the time it’s one family member with a ton of free time while the rest are at home doing chores or out working. A lot of the time for sports I’d imagine the families would only come for really big games, and even then those end up being nationals in a completely different city.

For the future! If you google "haikyuu characters" the first link (to the haikyuu wiki) has every single character broken down by school and role (so the staff vs students and teammates) with their name and a photo! Just be careful not to click their profiles because sometimes they will spoil a lot for their futures! Good luck (also you will need to know Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita coming up soon as our beloved captain is dead, rest in peace Daichi)

On the note of families coming to the games, Japanese high school volleyball tends to mostly take place on weekdays and start during the work day. With Japanese work culture being what it is, it's hard for families, or parents at least, to always justify being able to go to the games. Not to say that they don't at all of course, it's just not as common as the US where you assume that almost everyone in the stands is friends with or family of a player.

With the characters you were talking about not knowing, they are all 2nd years. Honestly the only second years in Karasuno we really know are Tanaka and Nishinoya. The other 2nd years are Ennoshita, Kinoshita and Narita. I believe Narita (who is number 8) may have played in a match a while ago but other than this episode we haven’t seen him play that much in the anime at all (I can’t remember if he shows up much in the manga either). Ennoshita (number 6) you’ll meet in the next episode and will play quite an important role in it. Kinoshita (number 7) doesn’t really appear much until season 4 as well. But don’t worry about not knowing them yet, they’re kind of just the background characters a lot of people sadly forget about😅.

Ennoshita actually appears a lot more in the manga, or at least he gets more "screentime" in the manga panels. I think the manga makes it more obvious that he becomes a very vital member of the team in the future, just like how Yamaguchi starts off simply as Tsukki's friend but gets some great character and plot development.
@scarlettamaycos
@scarlettamaycos 3 жыл бұрын
@@milkntomatoes9418 Yeah, but I think he only started to become a bigger part after this specific scene (it’s been a while since I’ve read the manga though so I may be wrong) and it was after that when we saw him more often. But definitely the next episode is when he plays his biggest role (that’s actually been animated) and although we do see him more after that, it’s the next one when he really shows who he is and what he can do. I just wanted to keep my original comment shorter and simple which is why I didn’t bother going into too much detail but (spoilers) it’s the same with Kinoshita and Narita during the Karasuno vs Kamomedai match, their appearances may be short, but they do happen thankfully.

@@scarlettamaycos I was trying to avoid spoilers but you went ahead and typed some stuff😅 As for Ennoshita, he got more spotlight much earlier in the manga, as early as the Seijou practice match. As you might remember, he tells Kageyama that every one in Karasuno has their own strengths, essentially adding to Kageyama's character development and becoming a lesson Kags thinks back on even much later into the story (sorry but I hate spoiling things for others so I don't wanna put examples here)
@CynRyn

Narita gets subbed in for Hinata in the Tokyo practice matches after he collides with Asahi to give him time to cool his head. Ennoshita appears quite a lot but he doesn't really stand out so his scenes are overlooked and/or quickly forgotten imo. Examples that have already been seen (so not spoilers): when talking about how some of the second years quit for a while when the old Coach Ukai was there, when Tanaka & Noya try to run after finding out about finals (and Daichi calls for him to stop them), when studying at Tanaka's, and in the episodes right before these when the dynamic duo is making fun of Hinata's exclamation/sound effect only to make the same sound when Ennoshita asks them about their summer homework. He's also makes occasional commentary on the game play (including the advice to Kageyama mentioned by @Lady Wellflower above). But, again, it's quickly forgotten because he's not as memorable as the other characters (before Tanaka's Nice Kill/Deadchi, that is). That's just my personal perspective but I've watched the series several times and read some of the manga (from where anime leaves off to end of series, then vol 1-3, so far), so others may see it differently.

I just love how the scene alludes that Daichi is “simple and strong”, facilitated with the banner of opponent’s as a background (who, on the other hand, does not match their team banner but to be “free and wild”).😭 It certainly affirms the traits of our humble and reliable captain. Moreover, we may even expect that “fun guys” would improve themselves in the way of “simple and strong”…… just like their graduated former teammates.😭

not sure if you realize this later, but the "fun" guy you like from Johzenji was the same guy hitting on the manager from the last episode, the guy that wouldn't take the hint. he's all about fun, sometimes taking it too far and brushing off people's rejection because he is just "having fun"

The point of the Johzenji flashback at 23:45 ish is that the team’s freewheeling attitude may come back to bite them unless they prepare for it in advance, but Terushima seems to disregard what his former captain was trying to tell them, and their manager knows that they’re in trouble if they can’t get their act together and play solid volleyball (hence the emphasis on their team’s banner).

13:42 Hey, FYI, that man you've never seen is a bench player and is a second year. There are 5 2nd years in Karasuno. #4: Yuu Nishinoya #5: Ryunosuke Tanaka #6: Chikara Ennoshita (the guy you've seen before but you don't know...the Daichi look-alike) #7: Hisashi Kinoshita (the guy you don't recall seeing before at all) #8: Narita (the Tanaka look alike). They're all decent players. The last 3 were introduced in season 1, in the very first overnight volleyball camp Karasuno participated in. The 3 of them couldn't take the brunt of the training the previous year when Grandpa Ukai was coaching them, so ran away (along with 2 others who left the club for good, later.). They came back after a week only to find that Grandpa Ukai had left again. They've been bench players since the current first years joined. You'll see more of them in the upcoming seasons :)

Don’t feel stupid when you don’t understand something! A lot of us have rewatched the show several times, as well as read analyses and had long discussions with other fans about the characters and plot. You’re actually watching it in a way that a lot of us did-being confused by something and then finding out after the viewing, it’s just that you find out via comments and we found out via friends/fan forums/TikTok/Tumblr/Twitter/etc. Plus, this is your first anime, so you’re still getting used to the style, the subtitles, the overlapping voice tracks (which I still struggle with, I always get confused as to which subtitles to read when they overlap, and I’ve been watching anime for a decade). Don’t feel ashamed!! We understand🖤🧡

It's SO weird knowing that people doesn't understand things that the show straight up said 5 seconds before. I keep forgetting that attention works different depending on the person. It happened a lit when I used to watch anime with my brother, maybe he putting more attention to other things than me. It could result more frustrating if you don't understand this. It's really interesting.

Japan is very different when it comes to watching their children in these types of events. Any other obligations, especially work, always come first. I once heard that there was a teacher at a school who's entrance ceremony (or something like that) was on the same day as her daughter's entrance ceremony, and she was scolded for going to her daughter's event instead of the school's even though she didn't need to be there.

Everyone in the comments is here to help ya if you don’t understand something regardless, buttt the one thing I’d maybe suggest which *could* help a little is sometimes when you pause it, it’s during a sentence which gives context to the dialogue, and when you play it again it looks like you sometimes miss that sentence so then end up a bit confused at what’s going on (as we all would be). So if after a pause you rewinded it a couple seconds so then you catch the whole context of a convo/ moment, it could help with maybe a couple things 😝 or pause when no convo is happening so you know for sure you haven’t missed anything 👊🏾 I could be totally wrong but thought I’d say just in case 🤟🏾 I know you did rewind the date tech convo but if you’d rewinded about 5 or 10 seconds more to the start of their dialogue I’m certain you woulda got what they were saying for sure :)

About the 2nd year players, number 6 is Chikara Ennoshita, he plays in the wing spiker position and was in the training match against Seijoh in the first episodes, before Asahi came back. Number 7 is Hisashi Kinoshita, that also plays in the wing spiker position and is a pinch server, however, he's the team last option in his position. Number 8 is Kazuhito Narita, he plays in the middle blocker position, being better than Hinata in the game's fundamentals, so when Kageyama was out, he subbed in along with Suga to replace Hinata.
