Thanks once again for this presentation. I am writing from Kenya, just to thank you. My steam I clogged a month ago and I had no slight idea of what to do; when I followed your instructions, the iron never responded immediately, but today, I am glad to report yo you that it has come back to life and it is functioning in its original state. Keep up this good job, you never know how many people you are going to assist. Thanks once again.

Many Thanks Sir, My Iron is now beautiful again. I had bought a new iron but sent it back as my 20 year old appliance was obviously so much better and more sturdy. It makes me so happy to make my old iron new and continue using an appliance I know well and trust. Again, Thank you.

I have the same model as yours. Black & Decker D2030. And the manual particularly warns against using vinegar. Instead you are supposed to hold the dial in "Clean" position (yes, that's an option on the dial) and hold hot iron (unplugged) over a sink and repeatedly press the steam button until all water comes out.

Crumpled Aluminum foil works well for the outer holes too. Thanks for the vinegar tip. My tap water is very hard, so will try distilled.

Wished I had seen this before now. Good video. Unfortunately I waited too long to try this, so I had to take my iron apart to get all of the hard water deposits out. Now that I know about this, I’ll use this method periodically. Thanks!

It's not about how high the temperature goes or how fast it goes up, like someone posted, it's about the water quality. If u have water that is not so pure, like full of chalk u will have that problem anyway. Vinegar is a good solution against chalk, luckily where I live the water is very soft and I don't have to use any anti-chalk solutions. I guess u don't even have to dilute the vinegar, it will be more effective. But in order to prevent this, use distilled water and u don't have to bother anymore.

Use filtered , or even better, distilled water and you won't have this problem.

I am a rank amateur steam iron user, my wife fractured her right arm and for the first time in my life I am doing the family's ironing and cooking etc. I took one look at our steam iron which calcified in the holes and on the soleplate and it seemed to me that the manufacture's don't even suggest using distilled water? But, I have an even better and cheaper solution, we have a dehumidifier in one of our upstairs north facing rooms which produces condensed water which is the same as distilled water and after several sessions of ironing the iron is like new, no scale or calcification on the soleplate.

How to tell us that she finally had to break her own arm, before you would cook or iron, without telling us that.... 🙄

Never iron on the carpet, I once knocked the iron and the carpet was burned. Cost me a lot of money out of my rental bond

I wouldn't recommend vinegar as it damages rubber seals, best to use commercial descaling or filtered lemon juice, rinse thoroughly afterwards.

.Prevention is better than cure. I have found that most people iron at too high a temperature . The steam setting on my iron has high, medium , low. Set the steam to low. I have found this setting works perfectly and I never have to clean my iron. The rule is start off at a low temperature and increase the temperature gradually. Write the settings down or keep them in a mental sock. Give it a go you have nothing to lose and hopefully everything to gain.

it's not dirt hun it's from not using distilled water you shouldn't use tap water on an iron
@brandonjones96356 жыл бұрын
Not true. Some steam irons (e.g. T-fal) tell you to use nothing but tap water.
@ThaoNguyen-rw2il5 жыл бұрын

Brandon Jones , I think that it’s where you live, in the U.K., in hard water areas there is more lime scale and that is what clogs the iron and also your shower head over time, it also leaves white residue around the taps, in soft water areas there is less or no lime scale so it’s not so bad. In soft water areas you do not have to use so much soap powder either as lime scale stops the suds from forming so easily. Distilled water removes the lime scale by distillation so the iron does not clog as easily.
