I spoke in another video about how 'Fear is the Fuel That Keeps Chronic Pain Alive' • Fear is the Fuel that ...
In this vid here, I talk about the power of anger and how you can constructively use the mobilizing energy of this emotion to positively propel you forward out of fear and into healing. It's better to be angry than scared when it comes to chronic pain and chronic health symptoms. The reason why is you need a different energy to move forward vs staying stuck or avoiding (flight) your symptoms and other things in your life. Also anger is the one emotion people suppress and repress the most and getting in touch with it can create change, if used in the right way.

I love this advice. I've always had a bit of a temper and been able to channel it. But post-injury and chronic pain, I haven't known what to do with it - I could feel it burning, but had no place to channel it except to use it to get over fears about trying out new therapies. But talking to my brain using anger appropriately - that's brilliant. I talk to myself a lot, but talking from fear and despair and anger, I don't think it's ever ar rarely been constructive. I'm really looking forward to speaking to myself from anger, but appropriately and constructively. My hubby's used to me chattering to myself, so no worries there, LOL.

Constantly pushing through and ignoring my body is how I got in this mess. How is it the way out? This doesn't sound in line with self compassion either.

Hey @jim have you got a transcript available for this method.. So then can have a daily dialogue talking to my brain… Also would it work with a Conditioned response of sitting and lying? And also with a TMS gut pain symptom that didn’t begin after an injury….

I like this approach but I’ve lately been trying to not react to symptoms as you spoke about. I do have a lot of fear around all my symptoms. Is talking to the brain to stop and back down a form of reaction? Also do you have any suggestions on how to respond when symptoms are constant? They don’t come and go. I’m worried that talking to the brain constantly reinforces my focus on the symptoms (however trying to not focus and being afraid of it isn’t helping either). Btw, I really appreciate your videos.

Hey Sandy good question. A response is different from a reaction because it’s a conscious choice to say something back. Sometimes you can practice just acceptance and letting go and that works other times you have to step it up and respond if the brain is not listening to you. It’s like a child that you lovingly accept and allow behaviors at times and other times you need to practice tough love with firmness and telling the child to stop. Your subconscious mind is essentially your inner child.

One last thing you said ‘I’m worried that...’ you’ve got to move past worry and fear to overcome this that’s where the strength of being tired of it comes in which is anger. This gives you energy to overcome fear and also move to higher levels of acceptance and love for yourself.

Hi Jim, I hope you see this comment as I have some questions. How can constructive anger be used with somatic tracking? Or a different question, should both be used with each other or not? For somatic tracking, the point is to let your body do whatever it wants (body taking over), without expecting a change. And for constructive anger, you’re giving an “I’ve had enough, stop doing this” message to your brain (you taking over). Both techniques sound conflicting if used together. Also, what does it mean when sensations move around when using constructive anger? I tried it yesterday, as I’m fed up with my 24/7 dizziness. I truly felt authoritative not scared. The sensation subsided and then the area around my wrist started to ache. I didn’t freak out cause this has happened and disappeared before, I haven’t had the achy feeling since October of last year. I’m just curious does this mean I’m doing something right or wrong?

It’s a great question and I will likely do another video on it to clarify. Yes they seem opposing but can work together. one is about decreasing your reaction to what you feel that is sematic tracking. The other is called responding we are changing the neural pathways using your cortex to try to quiet your amygdala. What you did is very good and very normal as it switches and can move locations a lot of times keep talking to it strongly you actually made a change in it. The other thing is looking at any emotions because that is what is produced by the limbic brain.

I’m afraid that showing anger will confirm my brain that I have a problem and that it will increase the pain to protect me. I thought acceptance was the right way?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 жыл бұрын
Not reactive anger so much as primary anger about injustices and times when you have been treated unfairly. You can use any frustration around the symptoms to overcome fear and move forward. That is transforming anger into constructive empowerment and strength that the fear is no longer going to control you

hp 01 yes get down into your heart if you can move your attention there. Feel what’s there and open to that. The heart is the center of emotion. Also talk to your brain like I mentioned. You have to be stronger than the symptoms and stand up and tell your brain to back down that you are ok. I don’t know your history but if the physical is ruled out then you can do and should do this. Otherwise you are being controlled by the pain and can become a victim in a sense to it. Give it a shot and be consistent and persistent with your message
