Yes yes! In today's drum lesson, we are going to dive into 3 tracks in different time signatures! Use these tracks as an example of these sigs and then spend some time getting super comfortable and ideally improvising in each one! First, we have Soundgarden - My Wave in 5/4. Second, Frank Zappa- Don't Eat The Yellow Snow in 7/8. Lastly, Mastadon - Aunt Lisa which I've written out as 2 bars of 7/8 and a bar of 7/16! Alex 👊

Appreciate it mate and glad you got something from it! Going to dive into some more concepts rather than just 1 track at a time for a while, got my eye on some insane modulations next - just got to learn them haha! Alex 👊

What about writing and thinking about Aunt Lisa in 5 bars of 7/16? I count each of the five bars out loud in Konnakol as [Ta (rest) Di Mi] {Ta Ki Ta} while at speed and it feels really comfortable. This could also be counted like 1 (rest) 3 4 5 6 7 or 1 (rest) 2 + 3 + 4 or perhaps 1 + a 2 + a. But the Konnakol way is easier to say at faster speeds imo.

@@DrumHubTuition definitely! And you clearly crushed it. Great one man! I know any way you count it (correctly) you can arrive at the same destination. But oddly, counting all of these different ways introduces a slightly different accent structure and feel. So I think it’s important to try them all ☺️. But also, the section just straight up feels like it has 5 equal parts. Thinking about it as two bars of 7/8 and then one bar of 7/16 might be the most efficient way to notate it. But it just don’t flow, ya know? A lil clunky.
