So you know the basics when it comes to playing fills between your chord changes on guitar, but what comes next? In this video, I'll follow up on many of the concepts covered in Part 1 of this series (linked above). This includes expanding outward into new positions on the fretboard and also linking the new scale shapes together by using a bridge note to slide back and forth from one scale to the other. The goal here is to give you just a few more options when it comes to improvising riffs and licks in the space between one chord and another.
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below. Thank you for watching!

Great lesson which make me realize that you can play notes of the modes for example mixolydian on the fifth chord and aeolian on the sixth A mixo and B aeolian in the key of D major or B minor. Is this right ? Thank you very much for your didactic teaching.

Thanks for this series of videos. It's really lifted a barrier. I play 60's and 70's country as an acoustic solo act which means a lot of open chords. The bass lines are pretty straightforward but the leads are challenging. Are you planning on doing a video for open position scales? Thanks again for the content.
@andrewclarkeguitar
@andrewclarkeguitar Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're enjyoying the videos. I feel like I'm not super qualified to cover the open position scales since I don't really play that style. But I'll try and tie it into a future lesson.

Your lessons are great! In part 1 before you showed us the full diatonic shape you showed the pentatonic shape. You did not do that in this part 2. I found that your letting us know the pentatonic shape first to be extra helpful to learning the new shape. Can you possibly explain that if you have a chance to answer this question?
@andrewclarkeguitar
@andrewclarkeguitar Жыл бұрын
Ah, yeah I see what you mean. I kind of skipped over that part since the video was getting so long. But starting with the pentatonic shape and then potentially adding the other notes would have been helpful. Sorry!

Is there any difference to improvising except it's played between cords or is it kind of the same?
@andrewclarkeguitar
@andrewclarkeguitar Жыл бұрын
It's pretty close to the same! But I take a slightly more nuanced approach. I plan on doing a series specifically focusing on improvising solos very soon. There are a few older videos on my channel that touch on it as well!
