To whom it may concern: this is actually pretty impressive in my 15 years of welding PE, PP, PVC (U&C), PVDF, PA ans so forth, with all kinds of welding processes I have seldom seen this done so well in this way. really impressive craftsmanship! I have only 1 remark, are you sure it was 9mm plate? I think it prolly was either 10 mm or an imperial dimension.

Hi, thank you very much for the kind comments! The PVC is definitely 9mm, pvc sheet thicknesses we use are usually 3 , 4.5 , 6 , 9 and 12mm occasionally we us 20mm & 25mm for some fabrications. Thanks again for the comments!

4:50 I believe it broke where it did because the sheet was weakened via indirect heating during the process of you laying the weld. The weld now became the strongest point hence it resisted breaking away there. Looks cool overall and nice weld you did. I wonder what kind of applications this would be useful for. Where load isn't a top concern, favoring a lightweight or cost effective solution (shelving units come to mind immediately) this could be cool. At the very least it looks fun to tinker with.

Hi no way👍 the thing with PVC is its very brittle, that's why in industry its usually combined with fibreglass for strength, if you was to take a peice of PVC and clamp it in a vice, then hit it with a hammer it would more than likely snap directly above the vice with no heat involved, similar to the video..directly above the weld, hope that's helpful, thanks for the comment 👍

If anything, heating up plastic and letting it cool makes it stronger, as it shrinks slightly and becomes more dense as the molecules bond closer together.

Decorative Pond shelving/shaping. It just sits there. This opens the possibility of a very cool pond layout. One can simply dig a big hole, use this process to build out it's layers, toss a foldable/hdpe liner over it, using the heat gun to crease/shape it properly. A sump pump can be easily put into this kind of rigging under the liner and it'll most likely protect it's plumbing, reducing the need to replace a leaky liner too often due to stuff from the surrounding dirt poking into the liner from the water weight/pressure. Interesting.

Hi geert, it sounds like you have the temperature to high, you should be able to hold the heat directly on the PVC for a short while before it starts to burn. Hope that's helpful, thanks for comment geert 👍
@TheStigma
@TheStigma 10 ай бұрын
You are either going too hot, or the other possibility is that the pipe is not PVC. In some areas ABS is used for drain pipes (also common in automotive and house appliances). Plastics have very different glassing (formable), melting and ignition temperatures - so identifying the material first is always essental. The weld rods also need to be the same type if you want a weld to actually fuse properly. For ABS spesifically, it needs to be hotter to melt, but also ignites sooner compared to PVC, making it much less forgiving - so this could maybe be the problem you experienced. Some materials like ABS can be cold-welded easily (acetone in the case of ABS), which can do the trick for smaller repairs

Hi 👋 you can purchase plastic welding tools straight from LIESTER, the model of the welding gun used in the video is a TRIAC ST, you will also be able to get welding speed nozzle. Liester is the best brand for welding plastics, ebay is definitely worth looking at for a used hot air Welder and a lot more cost effective. Plastic materials are best purchased from a stockist, it's usually cheaper and the quality is better, you could also purchase from amazon but its usually smaller cuts of sheet and quality might not be as good. Oh and yes you can definitely weld ABS using this method. Hope that's helpful! message me if you need any more info.
