Here's the rule for this vehicle; don't think you're saving any money by getting one with 190,000 miles on it for three grand. It will cost you $2,500 in rust remediation, bushing replacement, strut replacement and I can go on. These things rust like crazy especially if you don't live in California or Arizona or New Mexico or anything along those lines. If you live in New England or New York or New Jersey or anything along the rust belt, expect rust and this is a very very thin unibody chassis and there isn't a whole lot of metal to support the vehicle when it's new. The first thing that goes is the rocker panels near the rear tires and then the rear suspension mounts to the floorboards. And when they rust out you junk the vehicle. I would rather buy one of these things with a blown engine and transmission and no rust then the other way around. You would think Honda would make a quality product and they do but that's limited to the drivetrain. the vehicles are basically several clicks up from paper mache. So if you can't crawl under the vehicle and see the chassis and confirm it hasn't been painted to hide anything, run away.

This is an exceptionally built truck like (not car based) vehicle. Let me just say if you drove it you would think it had 30k on the clock yet I have over 300k on my 05. But it didn't get there by itself. Oil changes (Modil1) every 5k, Transmission service regularly (drop 3qt every 15k/3 oil changes, Honda trans fluid only from Honda, quality replacement parts and don't let things go, fix things when they become evident. Do not be tempted to use anything but Honda fluids, power steering and transmission especially.

The noise in the rear might be the sway bar links and bushings. I literally just came inside form replacing mine and every thump is gone. Its pretty cheap as well, the links are around $75 for all 4 (on amazon) and the bushings are about $12 a piece. You do all the work with the vehicle sitting on the ground, no need to jack it up.

Did the tranny and differentials fluid etc., Taken several trips been running good. Did the second gear tranny oil switch, when I got the flashing "D" thank god for all the advice on KZfaq. Now I just hope to get as many miles that everybody on this site says they are getting. What a fun car...

It's actually a 2003. Typo. It has 155,600 miles. Looks really good overall. They were asking $2700. I got it for $2200. BUT ... you'll be glad you talked to me ... Make sure they have at least TWO sets of keys and hopefully the valet key. Mine only had one. The day after I bought it, the key wouldn't turn and then the steering wheel locked up and I couldn't get it unlocked. The used dealer I bought it from came over from the next town and couldn't get it unlocked either. They're driving it to me now. It's still a good car, but those replacement keys are expensive. Something to consider.

I even try buying new batteries for it still don't work. I took it to shop if they can repair and they was charging me over 20k just to repair. I ended up taking junkyard instead and got 200 for it.

Old post but still relevant. If the dealer will not stand behind the vehicle and has no reputation, it’s about the same as buying from an individual (if no financing- lol). Yep, too high. 200k is too many miles for me unless I have documented evidence that certain things have been replaced. I’m with the other poster, $3000-3500.

As this is considered more of a semi-off-road vehicle, gas mileage is not great for class. 24 mpg puts it on the low end compared to other vehicles. Some of that could have been fixed with a 6th gear, some of it could not be fixed because the element isn’t aerodynamic enough.

It sounds like an OK deal for a dealer, if the dealer is reputable. I wouldn't pay that much for that vehicle from an individual or shady dealer though. I have seen very clean looking Elements, 1 st or 2nd owner about that year with 150K go for $4600. But, let's face it, you can not be in a hurry to find those deals. Most sellers want WAY MORE than these Elements are worth and about 90% do not sell. I've been studying the CL marketplace on Elements for 1.5 years. I can almost tell you as soon as I see the Ad if it will sell. Most do not. The marketplace has changed in the past few years, Elements are not as in-demand as they used to be. Someone forgot to tell the sellers.
@reesedaniel5835
@reesedaniel5835 3 жыл бұрын
@@williammchugh4361 You need to come to the Nashville TN area and a 200 mile radius around it. As soon as a dealer posts one of these Elements online, especially if it's an AWD, it's GONE before I can form a thought to go look at it!! People around here are ravenous for these along with Jeep Wrangler Unlimiteds. You can't get to one fast enough. It's as though people are camping out next to the dealers. I had to pay several grand more to get my 2004 EX in Orange Pearl today because of this. Either that or drive 500 miles one way. No thanks. So I paid 7800 for one with 169K miles. But it looks nearly brand new inside and out and was Alabama owned it's entire life so absolutely zero rust. I know I still got ripped a new one but I'm in love with this very hard to find and very cool and unique vehicle. It looks a million times better than any of the new and nearly new junk they are selling nowadays. Mine is AWD and has fog lights and double arm rests. My daughter's 20 year old boyfriend saw my new used Element tonight and not being familiar with Honda Elements, he thought it was a 2018 model car ; )

I'm looking at a 2007 EX AT AWD with 145,000 miles. Asking price is $5500. Is this a good deal if everything checks out?

I just paid $7800 for a 2004 EX AWD in Sunburst Orange Pearl with fog lights and 170K miles so I'd say, yes you got a steal. These Honda Element AWDs are in very high demand and very short supply within 200 mile radius of me so I was forced to cough up some dough. Car dealers pick up on this sort of thing before most people do and know when they can jack up the prices on a particular vehicle with a cult following. These Elements are fantastic. I thought they were ugly 16 years ago when I first noticed one. Wow, was I wrong. These look way better than 99 percent of the garbage on the road today, both inside and out and I actually prefer less Nanny State technology in my cars. These Elements remind me of mini Range Rovers that are far more reliable. Honda nearly nailed the perfect SUV. If only they had put a button on the steering wheel to change the radio stations and volume and added about 40 more horsepower and this ride would be a perfect 10.

@@reesedaniel5835 I actually bought the Element in my original post for $5000. They had complete maintenance records. My 2007 has radio controls on the steering wheel. Volume and station change. Not sure if this was a newly added feature on the newer models. She does have some sort of leak on the transmission, but as a daily, she's been very reliable.

Strongly considering one of these. Really want an XJ jeep but just not practical for my life as I would take it off road very infrequently. The Honda element looks practical and has good carrying capacity but better mileage and cooler than a minivan ... 🤔
