I'd go newer if it's a Toyota Yaris. Toyota somehow knows how to keep a model pretty much the same for 10 years or longer, and it will still be as reliable as the first year.

These are brilliant. We have had 3. All 1.5 manual. The first lasted 550,000km , the 2nd was crashed at 280,000km and the third is still strong at 290,000km. The only common fault is that the rear wheel bearings need replacement at about $200,000km. One had the rear brake drag fault once but otherwise been bulletproof. Tyres and the odd new battery. Perfect first car or great cheap transport. Oh and the space is nuts. I once picked up a single bed mattress in the jazz. And I have used the magic seat upright for things - eg suitcases and plants.

Prices for the jazz have gone up in the past 5 years here in Aus. I bought a 2009 GE auto 1.3 with the safety pack in 2019 for $6600. Had 100,000 km on the odo. They're still selling for more than that now. It is an excellent car, reliable and cheap to run and fun to drive. Goes ok on the highway. The most expensive service was to replace the fuel filter, the back seat has to come out to get access.

My wife is on her third Honda Jazz now and she's had 15 years of fault-free driving. We recently gave her 2014 3rd generation model to our adult son, and we found a 2019 model with only 12,000 kms on the clock with full service history. Feels like a new vehicle. On a recent trip to Japan we saw current model (4th gen) Honda Fits everywhere, especially hybrids. It just amazes me that Honda Australia stopped importing these. I've noticed however that grey imports are now available in Australia.

@@sidjyothi I own a GD Jazz, similar issues to yourself with regards to noise. I generally like a bit of good music myself so I upgraded the factory paper speakers, sounded good at lower volumes, but given the thin metal in the doors and minimal padding in the door cards, it sounded absolutely awful at higher volumes with any real power behind them. I spent about $110 on some entry level sound deadening from any of the major retailers here in Aus (car builders kit) and my god, after doing just the doors themselves and leaving the door cards off it's made a ridiculous difference! I can hardly hear the road noise anymore. Don't sell it if you enjoy the car, try the sound deadening first.

My grandad owned one of these until he gave up driving last year [aged 90], always quite enjoyed driving it. The Jazz never actually got the 1.5l engine in the UK until the tail end of the 3rd generation about 5 or 6 years ago, which is a shame cause it otherwise might not have had the same "shopping trolley for old people" image.

I have two jazz/fits, a first gen GD and a third gen GK. I’ve owned a lot of different cars and these are some of the best allrounders out there. The GD has really short gearing (3100rpm at 100km/h), and could do with some more legroom (I’m 6’4”) but it’s more fun to drive than a GK, it feels more like a classic Honda. The GK Jazz is more comfortable. A good compromise is the second gen GE, same as in this video. Change the spark plugs regularly (especially in the twin spark models) and do an occasional valve adjustment and these cars are bombproof.

Ive had my 2011 VTI for 3 years now and its been stellar. It has filled in as a work vehicle when my van has broken down more than once, swallowing a whole van load of tools :) Problems: Rust under the doors and in the engine bay-ive treated and recoated them which seems to have got it under control. Ive replaced a solenoid in the transmission. The AC compressor was replaced after it sprung a leak. And the door lock actuators have been replaced under warranty. The thing is absolutley amazing in day to day driving, and that includes some long haul stuff. And no Sht I literally just put some Wipertech wipers on my Jazz, they are killer!

My mates wife wanted a 2nd hand Honda Jazz & I found one in his price range. I got the price lower as it had been in a small accident & bent the reo bar behind the bumper. Everything else checked fine. I sourced another reo bar & bolted it on. It was auto but it had the flappy paddles. For a tall bloke like me, it fit me well & the space is unbelievable. The only problems they've had is that replacing the headlight globes can be a pain & parts from wreckers can be hard to find. I've never seen it have rust but when they got it, I got cavity wax in all the areas where rust can occur. Driving it around town & parking is so easy. Highly recommended for someone who wants a small car but isn't a car minded person. Servicing them is a doddle.

Got ours here in NZ as a 2005 import 10 years ago with 56,000kms. Now sitting on 150,000. So nice to drive. Quiet, smooth, peppy. Have put on 6 new tyres - 4 of those all new 3 months ago (yep - the rears just wouldn't die). One seized left front brake caliper. CVT additive every 2-3 years. Normal servicing. And that's it. Never once missed a WoF. Always starts. Everything works. Still looks smart. Magic seats helped us move house three times. Easily fits a drier and a Wever family Q in the box into the back. Incredible. We'll probably never sell it.

I bought a first gen GD Jazz vti-s as it was cheaper than fixing my Subaru's head gasket and it was one of my favourite cars I've ever had. I got it at 200k kms and put on another 70k of hard driving after I modded it with suspension, wheels and a full exhaust system and it never gave up, still had the original clutch at 270k. Also the best part of the car was even though it wasn't fast, the way the 1.5 vtec engine revved, it had a boost of power from 5krpm to the redline unlike most other cars which drop off up that end so it was as joy to drive. The only issues I did have were coil packs - very common and especially if cheaper spark plugs are used and the roof leaked at the back of the rails, a bit of silicon fixes that, both common issues. I've got a Fiesta ST now and while it's has so much more performance it's no where near as practical and has more rattles as the jazz, also the stock suspension isn't comfortable at all.

Fun fact, the Honda CRZ is based on the Jazz running gear. The engine has some mods but quite a bit is interchangeable. Not everything but the Jazz hybrid and CRZ have a lot in common. Plus the MX5 maybe a better drive but the CRZ eats it for space and comfort as the range of seat adjustability is slightly limited especially seat rake. Currently 2014 CRZ with cvt(wider gear spread)glass roof,17 inch alloys and leather seats. Goes like a Swiss watch. Cheers.

This is a little late for me. I just bought a 2005 1.5l manual Jazz earlier this week. I'm moving soon & needed something a little bigger than my motorcycles to carry boxes & stuff & the Jazz fit the bill. And while it's not as fast as my Aprilia or KTM, it's nippy enough to pull away from most traffic at the lights & is a hoot around corners, even on the skinny stock rims. I was going to use it for a couple of months & then sell it, but it's so much fun to drive & was so cheap to buy that I'm going to keep it.

I had a Gen 1 Jazz from new for 12 years, I had the 1.3 with the CVT, It was a great car, in some ways it was better than the Gen 2, the CVT can be fun to drive once you get familiar with it, I could be quicker to 80 than a V8 clumbsydore or FallCon in the Jazz simply because if you feather the accelerator pedal just right and keep the engine at peak torque with the CVT it's peak torque to the wheels until 80-90km/h then the revs start going up so they're much quicker than the 1.3 engines specs would let you think especially as other cars had to disengage power to the wheels to swap cogs. Most people have a tendency to just mash the accelerator pedal, that will just result in a lot of noise and no action, driving a CVT like this is just wasting fuel.

After 6 months looking for the best bang for Buck around town reliable small second hand car that could hold enough gear for camping I bought a 2013 Jazz Vibe! Driving 1.5 and 1.3 manuals around town were almost zero difference and the later upgraded gen2 is much harder to find in 1.5 manual, most are Auto. The Jazz Vibe is 1.3 and Jazz VibeS is the 1.5. The later upgraded Gen2 1.3 is closer to 1.4 than 1.3 with increased HP over the earlier 1.3. I was sold on a Honda CRV after your( Along with many others) reliability reports but so was everyone else it seems because good ones are pretty hard to find especially with the amount of backpackers using them for traveling around Australia You cant guarantee the correct service history! Thats why I swapped to looking at the Jazz/Fit and it wasn't a mistake! look for one made in Japan as they were also made in Thailand for Australia and if your not freeway driving everyday the 1.3 is good enough! Getting an average 6.7L per 100Km,s stop start traffic around town but am sure the 1.5 would be the same.

I have a 1.3 5 speed, 2012 GE Id agree completely on getting the 1.5, but if the 1.3 is available you wont be missing out. Bought mine September 2017, with 39k on the odometer, now showing 173000k and change. Replaced the rear shocks @80000k, cant bitch about that, carried a concrete outdoor table with 2 concrete benches and the plinths for them home after my wife made a marketplace purchase. No idea what they weighed, but my front wheels had zero weight in the steering, I suspect contact with the road was ...tentative. 80k service shocks were leaking. Replaced them. Replaced a relay in the Air conditioning system. Thats it, purely service items at service time. The writing in the LCD screen is no longer visible, the heat from Queensland summers while it sat in the sun in a carpark cooked it. Everything works, just a certain amount of random selection when going through your presets. Cant fault my little pick up truck, readout shows 5.9l/100 a little rough math on fill up shows closer to 6.5, no complaints. Done at least 1/2 a dozen 1200k day trips, yeah, its not a Bentley, but we went for dinner that evening without issue. It has a towbar for a 6 x 4 trailer, it knows its there but just use a little common sense. Great little car, can't fault it, service it every 10k as specified and I suspect it will go forever. I am looking at updating the entertainment,with dashcam and all the yadda yadda, any suggestions?

Have a 2005 jazz, unfortunately we didn't get the 1.5l till the generation after this one in the uk. Did a 1000 mile + roadtrip last year with 3 people and it did great. Unfortunately slips out of 5th gear now and can't decide if I should get it fixed. Got used to a bigger engine and cruise control with regular long jerneys now.

Air con compressors tend to go on them, mine went at 110k miles, quoted £700 to replace - didn't bother as I'm in UK but might be more of an issue for Aussies. Other than that, dead reliable, great car

We had 3 Honda jazz’s Absolutely loved them We had a gen 1 2004, 2011 and a 2015 The worse one we had was the newest 1 It literally rusted away in under 12months We traded it fast The only problem we had was the body Yes the boot used to leak in the gen 1 It was due to the glue what they used to glue the roof on shrunk so it just leaked The roof need to be removed and reattached After 8yrs and 760,000ks Absolutely zero mechanical issues But the body was shit 2011 Auto blow up with only 800klms on it Was replaced under warranty But paint fade and rear wheel bearings was our only problem We would do regular trips from Gold Coast to Newcastle every yr several times a yr plus the wife used it to drive back n forth to work Over an hr each way Jazz no 2 was written off from an accident No 3 Sorry It was just a dud

After watching Jim, if you have a 2005 and get CVT shudder, a $125NZ transmission fluid change including the Honda additive will 100% fix it. Totally and utterly gone. Then we just keep it up when servicing. And sounds like our caliper might have been the rear? it cost $175NZ to fix from memory. Best car ever made.
@christopherjohnston6343
@christopherjohnston6343 8 күн бұрын
Fluid change only helps up to a certain point. They're meant to be regularly replaced anyway - like 2 years 30,000kms or whenever the shudder returns. Cars that have been neglected or driven harder can end up With a permanent shudder that fluid changes can't fix.

I have a 2008 Mazda2 with 215k on the clock. Besides scheduled maintenance and tyres it has not cost a cent more. 20Km/L and a rather sporty drive. Probably the most reliable car I have ever had. The Honda is by far the most practical with a touch of ''class''. The Yaris is soo small and has a really bad ride quality. Besides it being a Toyota it brings nothing to the table.

And it was made by Aussies, and you just know they can get away with it. The non hybrid version was a 5 speed auto, not a cvt. I had a 2010 jazz 1.5 auto from 130,000kms - 460,000 kms. Best car ever but the suspension was made from concrete and the spark plugs are a total pain to change. And it leaked water through the antenna but that was an easy fix.

It depends on the market the car was sold in. The Japanese market cars never got a manual in the first gen, and a manual in a second or third gen fit is very rare, all they have is the CVT, no regular stepped automatic. Here in NZ, the Jazzes have a CVT or manual. As far as I’m aware, the US Fits have a regular automatic regardless of the generation. No CVT.

@@vincentyoung9261I’ve learned something today! We have like a million JDM GD fits in NZ and I’ve never seen a manual one, they’re all CVT. Sometimes a GE or GK JDM fit manual, especially hybrid ones come up on the local auction site. But they’re quite rare. I have a manual GD Jazz, but it’s a New Zealand market car.

@@zeroyon4562 yes the sportier variants of the GD were known as the Type S. They came in 5 spd manual and CVT 7 spd. U can Google and find them..the sportier variants of the GE & GKs were known as GE8 RS & GK5 RS. Both came in 6 speed manual and CVTs. There are also 5 speed manual variants of the GE & GK but those are non- sport variants.. interesting that they have so many options

I'm not sure about the GE, but with the first-gen GD there was an additional interior config which Honda called "Refresh". You basically take the front seat headrests off, and then the front seats could recline all the way back and essentially fold flat with the rear seat base. I guess the idea is you could then sit on the back seat with your legs all the way out, or you know, lay down with a friend.......

Also worth commenting on is the Mk1 Jazz was a fan of cat thieves, at least in Europe. If you buy one, make sure you reverse park against a wall. I think the Mk2 as per video was OK in this respect.
