I love my ID3 - got it last July 2023. It was pre registered and used as a demo for 3 months so had 1400 miles on the clock. £2k deposit assistance and 2 free services the monthly price is £30 less than the hybrid cars I was interested in (that includes reducing the deposit I paid by £1000 to cover the home charger) The insurance is about £10 a month more expensive but the fuel savings recoup that many times over. It is at least £50 a month cheaper on my mileage. Public charging is extortionate but I rarely use them - my regular long journey is about 190 round trip for football. In extreme cold I have had to add a few miles for reassurance but it doesn't cost more than the 11p per mile I used to get from the toyota hybrid (60mpg) for the trip. So easy to drive and comfortable and pretty quick too. It was the same as the model reviewed as pre facelift and wasn't much more than the price in the video which is 2.5/3 years older. I was a bit worried about charging as we went to Cornwall last August and it was painful at times, but chargers are springing up everywhere and the few times I have needed to top up it has been relatively straightforward.

Great review, iD3 is an awesome first EV and awesome family car. can pick them up even from vw dealer for a great price.. Glad you noticed, it feels like the replacement for a beetle! Im sick of complicated diesels and petrol cars which get sensor and dpf / egr issues. EV solves this and the iD3 is an awesome car!

I don't just think the ID:3 is better looking than the Golf. I think it's possibly the best looking EV on the market! It's just the right side of space age. Have wanted one since they were announced but the 12 month plus back order and then the government getting rid of the EV grant put us off getting one. The price is now finally coming down to around what I would consider reasonable for a used model. Have even seen some for as little as £17,000 from dealers.

We agree it is a great looking car and prices are certainly coming down now in the used market!

Absolutely so much fun to drive, and that is about it!! Unfortunately there are not enough fast chargers, public charging has already trebled in price, a typical pod point fast charger used to be 25p a Kw, now it’s 85p a KW, so not far off £50, for about 220 miles, if it’s not cold, In the cold Weather you lose about 20% due to the lithium batteries not liking the cold, ask any EV driver and I have met loads at charging stations, would you buy one, they have all said no, please guys do your research, i shouldn’t be telling you these as I am trying to sell them for a living, we have stopped importing them as we cannot get rid of them!

If you do regularly long distance certainly wouldn't have one, but with home charging and the odd couple of long trips a year certainly would own one.

It all depends on your needs, for many people who make frequent shorter trips then EV's are a great option. Having charging options at home or work helps too, Jen

If electric cars are so good why are many bargain 2nd hand buys?
@MichaelPanzer

I'd say it's a mix of market dipping in sales and prices coming down combined with the default depreciation that's happening because things get older. We have a new ID3 with now around 40k km on it and I'd buy such a car used any day of the week. Service is every 2 years without km limit and there is not a lot to go wrong. I also think there is no mature 2nd hand market yet because the first waves of sold cars are coming to the 2nd hand market now for the first time...

Spot on Michael! I really enjoyed driving the ID.3, can easily see how you've got it to 40k km!

@@MichaelPanzer My point was not a criticism of electric vehicles. I have an E bike but not sure that i'm willing to invest in EV until i fully understand and see that the investment in infrastructure is available. The idea of planning my journey around 40mile charging points is not a thrilling concept. When i drive from 1 point to another and back i can at present using the vehicle to undertake moderate travel i do not expect to wait for 20mins to charge. I have concerns that batteries in the 2nd hand market also will not be value for money and only charge to 80% of the original capacity. I guess until we see great evidence (data) many motorist will be concerned about areas like durability, safety) when other emerging tech (hydrogen) etc.. could also be an option.

@@llamudos9809 Look, you asked why this car is so cheap if electric cars are so great. AND THEN you go about telling why YOU don't want an ev. Then you have some feelings about how a battery could be in a 2nd hand car without any data to back that up. You orginally asked why this car seems to be a bargain if it's so great. I gave you reasons why the 2nd hand market could still have some unknows for EVs. This has nothing to do with what you like or thing that might be the case because you have a feeling. Also the last line with "other emerging tech (hydrogen)" is giving away what your real point is... Just don't get an EV but don't, that's your answer.

VW has announce that they are focusing on hydrogen and no further EV will be announced. Would you want to buy a car abandoned by it's manufacturer?

Hey - not sure where you read this? But as far as we believe VW are planning on staying away from Hydrogen technology for the next decade and focussing on EV's.

@@PeoplesAutomotiveGroup Et voila: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jt-Wm9qjt8-dYoE.html. It seems that VW as result of their seriously flowed OS debacle have: 1) Bought into Xfing to get their OS which seems to be "bug free". and 2) Resuscitate their H2 project it shelved over 20 years ago. As their FCO is quoted recently "The roof is on fire".......

Not true - Toyota are backing hydrogen and think EVs will only get 30% market share but we have just passed 1m Evs in the uk and have 35m cars so there is still a hell of a lot of EVs to sell

VW are bringing out the ID7 and ID2. The ID3 is being removed from the line up to be replaced by a Golf on an EV platform not an ICE conversion.
