Danyang is a force to be recon. Ultimately, she is a strong woman who momentarily had the wrong impression of Shiyi due to Yuanniang. Once, she saw for herself how honest and intelligent Shiyiang was, she realized her mistake and was her friend for life. Lianfang made a deadly enemy that day and Danyang didn't pull any punches in pelting shade whenever she could. She sure rubbed salt in Lianfang's unrequited love for Lingyi and that jab at being a concubine for so long with no pregnancy in sight was the ultimate smack down. The level of pettiness was epic.

And Shiyi lies and does not blush. Lies for salvation. But she perfectly understands that Danyang is smart and when she calms down, she will understand that the rumors are true. Shiyi did a great job giving Danyang great advice. Fengqing will never threaten the position of Danyang's children as her husband will never acknowledge him as his son. In addition, she does not need to focus on what was before her. Linquan loves her. For Danyang, the most important thing is the health of her and her unborn child, and her future life with her husband. The past must be left in the past and not follow the lead of people who are ready to sacrifice her and her child for their own selfish interests. I was delighted when Danyang slapped Lianfang in the face. Lianfang deserves much more punishment for what she did. How quickly Lianfang loses her confidence when she is reminded of Lingyi. Qiao knows for sure that he is not a GM and for the damage to Danyang (and indirectly to his wife) he will be merciless. Her crocodile tears have no effect on Lingyi. Danyan hits her where it hurts the most. Lianfang became a concubine hoping to win Lingyi's love, but was never able to do so, unlike his wife. It's good that Danyang turned out to be smart and strong enough. She is ready for the sake of her future to forget about the past. It should be noted that the efforts of Lingyi and Shiyi were in vain, Danyang understood everything, but heeded Shiyi's advice. Likuan loves her and the child, and this is the most important thing. He is so attentive, noticed that her dress was soiled. Although, for him this is an occasion to switch the conversation from a topic that is dangerous for him. What a wonderful nanny Danyang has, she gives her good advice. She is right, Shiyi is a lawful wife, kind and wise (and her husband does not like her soul). Danyang better communicate with Shiyi, she will really be able to support her.

Yet one more reason to love Shiyi. She saved the day again. Shiyi is the poster child for great advice. It's funny how attentive Danyang was when Shiyi was advising her because in the beginning she was prejudice against her. She didn't really consider her acceptable/worthy to be recognized by her. When Shiyi visited her to get a sample of her embroidery she was so dismissive/rude. Now the very woman that she looked down on is the one that saved her at the expense of herself. I'm so glad they had this little heart to heart talk. It reassured Danyang/let her know that her life will not change. She never has to worry about Fengqing impacted their lives. Shiyi hit all the right notes. Man that slap was perfect/well deserved. Danyang didn't disappoint. The best part was her rubbing in Lianfang's face that Lingyi doesn't regard her as anything more than another mouth to feed. She told her that he doesn't even give her a second thought...lol When she tried to act all innocent...Danyang wasn't buying what she was trying to sell. The only one that is fooled by her fake tears is the GM. Lianfang needs to learn her audience...lol She can't fool rely on her manipulative nature to fool everybody because not everyone is as gullible as the GM. She thought she would play the victim card again but Danyang revoked her access...lol She backed down real quick when Danyang called her out/told her that they can go to the GM/tell her what happened. She didn't expect Danyang to call her out. Lianfang was way out of her league.

That slap was everything, Danyang didn't like Lianfang in the beginning now she has made Danyang her enemy and I love how every chance she gets she insults Lianfang and that old bat can't protect her against Danyang.

Danyang has finally realized Shiyi is good caring intelligent woman despite her being concubine's daughter. Danyang has realized that she has been prejudice and hateful towards Shiyi unfairly. Danyang has definitely come to full realization with sweet vengeful slapped of Lianfang is one that's evil narcissistic manipulatively viper schemer who has been using herself to attacked Shiyi wrongfully despite Lianfang had been born noble woman. I am loving Danyang's matured growth and her willingness to change towards Shiyi. I do enjoy Danyang's subtle encouragement of Grand Madame to see things differently when she goes off on Shiyi in the future. I do love how Danyang and Shiyi relationship changes to caring and supportive into their future selves' truly bestie bonded sisters as it should be as two lawful legal wives of two Xu brothers. Now , just get rid of all the pesky narcissistic manipulatively scheming concubines forced onto Marquis by Grand Madame for happy , loving and relax House of Xu's lawful legal marriages and family! ❤

I'm glad that Danyang finally sees how caring/smart and daring that Shiyi is because it gives Shiyi another ally in the Xu family. Danyang's prejudice kept her from accepting her. She has grown a lot. That slap was pure gold. I'm so glad she didn't take what Lianfang tried to do lying down. Such a great moment.

Shiyi is forever saving this family from Lianfang's actions. Danyang is very lucky. Shiyi is giving her some great advice to follow. Her impulsiveness put her unborn child's life in danger. If Shiyi hadn't swooped in and cushioned her fall things might've ended up very differently. That slap was everything...It was the icing on the cake. A sunny day during the winter. It was epic. This is the moment I started liking Danyang. When Lianfang tried to play the victim I was so glad that Danyang called her out. She's so used to fooling the GM with all her fake crying that she thought it was going to work on Danyang. When Danyang told her that Lingyi doesn't even give her a second look I couldn't stop laughing. She wasn't pulling any punches. Lianfang should've listened. The GM is the only one that refuses to see through her hypocritical face but Lingyi already has her number. Basically Danyang was telling her that he doesn't like her/he never will....lol

The wife of the other brother was an okay lady because even though she didn't accept him to claim the child she still gave her permission to see the child. And during those times due to her title of Princess that was a reasonable lady who didn't try to kill the child.

Commend Shiyi and Danyang's decisions & choices but the men really got away too easily because the women will suffer if they really get their own justice abou their mistakes. Lingkuan is really lucky with his brother, sis-in-law, and wife.

I think it comes out later that Lingkuan didn't know about the baby. His mother and her brother came by and told her, and she gave them money to go away. He was babied and didn't have a chance at first to handle his responsibilities.

I enjoyed this drama. The characters are quite smart and not the typical dumb dumb. Still it has the cliche of having the first wife weak/dead.

She wasn't exactly weak in terms of character. She was poisoned/her body was shutting down. However, before she died she made some critical moves to protect her son from the GM/Lianfang. Her actions changed the course of Lingyi's life because he fell in love for the very first time thanks to her scheme.

Yuanniang/First Wife wasn't really that weak. She got weakened because of giving birth prematurely to their first child then got a miscarriage and continuous poisoning.

@@shuckstoe she was poisoned so that she could miscarry. Lianfang didn't want her having another child with Lingyi because she thought it would strengthen their bond. She was too stupid to understand that her actions weren't a guarantee. She thought if she got rid of Yuanniang that she would end up as Lingyi's legal wife because she had the GM's backing. They were delusional. He wasn't nor was he ever going to be interested in her.

@@shontelagrone8713 that's why I said continuous poisoning coz she was still being poisoned after the miscarriage. Well, Lianfang was an immature, delusional, spoiled girl. Her actions and intentions were pretty obvious though she covered her tracks pretty well until Shiyi decided to dig deeper and connect the dots. Plus, if we were to blame another person, it would be Lianfang's mother, she planted all those illusions in her daughter's mind, resulting in her being a murderer.

@@shuckstoe I agree. Her mother was responsible for her daughter's actions because she made her believe that she deserved to be Lingyi's wife. She didn't care about the methods just as long as she accomplished her goals. Unfortunately for her things didn't workout the way that she planned. She was sure that Lingyi would be hers once Yuanniang died. She didn't expect that Yuanniang would plan ahead to protect her son. She beat Lianfang at her own game.

The issue isn't just who the father, it's his wife. There are varying factors that can determine which child will inherit their father's title and the position of the child also affects the mother's position of power. In Chinese harems, women have been known to kill for their husband's favor as well as ensure a position for their children, but only sons can inherit. You saw how Danyang acted when she was told about Fengquing, Shiyi was only able to calm the tension by ensuring that there was no way he could threaten her and her child's position. Danyang isn't equipped to be a stepmother at this point and while Lingyi might have to deal with the power struggle with the other women in his harem his side of the family has more experience with children.
