@@Irynash11 he is so content with his new life right now. He's actually having conversations with the woman he loves to sort out all of the issues within their family. She doesn't berate him. She doesn't criticize him. She listens and she understands. She gives her opinion/she steers him in the right direction. She's everything he needs in his life. I love their relationship. They've worked hard to get to this place. Wen has too many fires burning right now. She's trying to help her family, use her son and get revenge on Shiyi. She hasn't figured out yet that her family is only using her to further their goals. She is still loyal to them no matter how many times they disown her. She's a fool when it comes to her family ties. Yu has been used as a tool by his own mother. She's finding excuses to justify why she's trying to solidify his position. It's all about power for her. She has a merchant's mindset/it shows. If she took a step back she would realize that Shiyi is the reason that Lingyi started spending time with his son. It wasn't about merit...he chose to be a better example for his sons so they can grow up to be decent men. If she hadn't suggested that he spent more time with his boys things would be very different. I agree Yizhen teachings really influenced Yu's value system. He doesn't focus on profit but merit. He's striving to make a difference but his mother is incapable of seeing the truth. She's directing her hatred/resentment towards Shiyi....she is playing a dangerous game because Lingyi will never allow anyone to harm his wife.

It is sad that Concubine Wen doesn’t realize what Shiyi and Lingyi are trying to do for Yuge. If Yuge gets the best education he can get a governmental position and could possibly earn his own noble status as these titles are granted by the emperor based on noble acts. Lingyi could have requested a higher title at the beginning of the show based on his deeds. Lingyi and Shiyi are both thinking about Yuge’s future more deeply and than Concubine Wen. I love that they asked him what he wanted to do. Yuge wants to learn.

@@mckalla2109 she didn't want to see the bigger picture because that meant giving up her meal ticket. If Yu was sent off to boarding school to learn...she wouldn't be able to use him whenever she wanted to get near Lingyi. She needed to make Shiyi the bad guy to justify her hatred towards her. It's the same thing that all of his concubines did... they saw Shiyi as a threat because Lingyi started to change....they didn't care about him until Shiyi entered the picture...and then they all felt threatened. Concubine Wen lost her family support due to Lianfang's actions but she blamed Shiyi. It was as if she needed everything to be Shiyi's fault to justify betraying the family when she burnt the Emperor's gift. Her actions could've gotten the entire family killed including her precious son...You're right Lingyi and Shiyi were looking out for his future. Shiyi told concubine Wen to ask her son what he wanted but she never took the initiative because it was easier for her to blame Shiyi. I'm glad that Lingyi listened to her advice and he asked his son what he wanted for his future. If he didn't listen to her....Yu's future would've been affected.

He has two sons by himself, one with his previous legal wife and one with concubine Wen. The son of his brother is another one.

Their relationship has come a long way. He really listens to her. If it wasn't for Shiyi...he wouldn't have a good relationship with either of his sons. She taught him how to be a more engaged father. You're right...they are a married couple...tackling family issues as a couple. It's good to see them so happy.

So true....he only wanted one wife but his mother wouldn't allow it. She forced him to take concubines...and it caused a whole lot of issues.
