So we did finally get our BMPCC4K and are still quite happy with the results. The extra sharpness is really nice and the colour still has that intangible “blackmagic” aesthetic. But totally understand where others are coming from.

@@BiteSiteInc One can also run the Micro Cinema Camera's footage through Resolve 15's new Super Scale feature. Using a good lens, 2x scaling, sharpness at medium and noise reduction set to high and the end result on a lot of footage is almost indistinguishable from native 4k in a surprising amount of situations. It surprisingly can also be used for cleaning up some 1080p footage on a 1080p timeline as well.

Thanks for the informative video! I'm currently shooting on a Canon EOS M with Magic Lantern to capture raw footage, which works, but issues like dropped frames, occasional corrupted footage and more are more frequent than I'd like, especially in bright sunlight. Having a camera that can shoot raw natively would be a huge step up, and the BMMCC is one I've been heavily considering. Now that the Pocket 4k (and 6k) have come out, would you still recommend this camera despite its shortcomings for a first step out of the world of DSLR shooting?
@BiteSiteInc
@BiteSiteInc 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Focus Rack Films - unfortunately with everything that's come out since this video was posted, I would seriously recommend researching other cameras. I know it costs more, but the Pocket 4K has a lot more going for it ("included" monitor, way better ergonomics, 4K, Blackmagic RAW, better audio options, bigger sensor). If you consider the cost of the BMMCC and the monitor, the Pocket 4K is actually cheaper and offers quite a bit more. There might be a subtle difference in the picture aesthetic - but bang for your buck - Pocket 4K is a way better deal. I would also consider the other options on the market as well (Panasonic GH5, some of the Sonys, ZCam). There are just a lot more options these days. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

It depends on the price! I spent 3500RMB to buy a second-hand bmmcc and 300RMB for a 5-inch monitor, I think it is pretty worth (≈540 us dollars)

@BiteSiteInc

As far as we know, you cannot record directly to an SSD. There is an HDMI out to feed a signal to an external recorder, but it doesn't have something like a USB-C Port like the BMPCC4K does. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

It does! Since I had posted, I came to the same conclusion after not being able to find anyone on the interwebs who has done it this way. Hi. Thank you for the informative video. I've heard this camera's cooling fan creates a bit of noise, which is not ideal for an on camera mic? Have you experienced this? I notice you're using a lavelier, so no issues there. But what about using a boom mic when on a quiet set? Have you notice any background noise coming from the camera's fan?
@caseyli6481
@caseyli6481 2 жыл бұрын
Hi 41-MKR, thanks for watching and for your question. Unfortunately, we never tried this camera with an on-camera mic. We were always audio recording externally so I can't confirm the fan noise issue. Just from my own ears, it didn't sound too loud, but if the mic was directly on the camera it might pick it up. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I apologise for viewing your video a few years too late. My question is: are you still using the micro, or have you since upgraded? Secondly, what is your opinion about the Superscale function in Resolve? I still use the original BMPCC for my talking head interviews, while the 4K variant is relegated to B-roll footage.

Hey Dante. BiteSite actually shut down its video production division, but we had since upgraded to the BMPCC4K. That being said, I personally still use the BMPCC4K and the BMMCC for things like live streams and still love the Micro. In terms of Superscale - I've never actually used it myself so I can't say I have a strong opinion about it. Thanks for watching and for commenting!

Can't you just upscale the 1080p to 4k in divinci resolve?
@BiteSiteInc
@BiteSiteInc 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Luis, that's something you can definitely do, but you're not getting the same result as native 4K. Upscaling is effectively just taking one pixel and converting it into roughly 4 pixels and guessing as to what the values of those 4 pixels are. It really depends on the upscaler. Some are better than others. Some can give you super good results - while others can leave you with undesired artifacts. Definitely a good solution - but not always the desired outcome that people are seeking. Thanks for watching!

Hey Glenn - to be honest - we never used the mic on this camera other than for scratch audio. We always recorded to an external recorder (Zoom H4N) and sync’d in post. @BiteSiteInc
@BiteSiteInc 5 жыл бұрын
Hi PANICO Photography, that question is not usually very clear cut, but we would highly recommend you do NOT buy this as your first camera. For the amount you would have to spend on this camera plus a monitor, you could afford a much more functional camera as your first camera. If you're just getting started, I would take a look at an entry-level DSLR like the Canon SL2. We haven't used it ourselves, but have heard great things for its price: it's got great auto focus, interchangeable lenses, flip out screen, microphone jack, and DSLRs still shoot great images. Also don't forget about smartphones which are getting great at shooting video these days. Hope that helps.

@BiteSiteInc
@BiteSiteInc 5 жыл бұрын
@@panicophotography4032 ah I see. That is a much tougher question to answer. First of all, if you're planning to upgrade from a DSLR for under $2000 Canadian dollars, I would NOT recommend this camera. I would recommend something like the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K or the Panasonic GH4 or even the GH5. Secondly, the way I see it, you'd really only be upgrading for 2 reasons: ergonomic features and image quality. Ergonomic features are more a benefit for you and your team. You'll be able to shoot things easier, nail focus better, get right exposure - but the client or audience won't really notice. Image quality is something your audience MAY notice, but may not, or may not care. If you want to upgrade for ergonomic features, the BMPCC4K and the GH4/5 will give you things like focus peaking, zebras, audio meters, and more. If you do really care about image quality though, the Blackmagic is definitely a step up - but keep in mind that you can improve image quality in a lot of ways: better camera, better lens, better lighting, better content, better color grading all contribute. With all that being said, if this would be the biggest investment for your company yet, not knowing much else, I would NOT upgrade your camera. I would either save that money, or spend it on things like camera stabilization, better lenses, some lighting equipment, or audio equipment. Again, it's a tough question to answer in a comment, but hopefully that helps a bit.
