Great idea. This is much better than rubber bands, as the assistance weight is steady and constant with cable system. and I like there are two pulleys to create a bit of distance from the plates.
@JS-lr8nj
@JS-lr8nj 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's exactly it. Bands help you get out of the hole, but then you get no assistance at the top. The other thing that works is just setting up a chair near you and using your foot on it.

Had the exact same idea a few days ago, then figured if i had thought of it someone else must have also, so rather than reinvent the wheel i will have a look on youtube... sure enough here it is haha. I think instead of the individual loops for the feet i would use a short wooden plank. Cables or chain either side of the plank, have them come together and attach to the cable with a carabiner. Thumbs up

Yes good idea, thank you. On Aliexpress there are small climbing harnesses, the belt is around your waist and legs only. They cost just about $ 14.
@JimintheGym
@JimintheGym 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would work, too. the thing is, you'll want to get out of it between sets. So long as it's not that hard to get in and out, you'll be fine.

@@JimintheGym i just tested this with a single pulley - it sorta works - supporting it at the foot/feet seems the best. The belt support somehow doesn't work as well because with the feet you can just lift the leg up to slack the cable to remove the shackle. With a belt you'll have to raise yourself up or place the weight on a chair or ladder

I just bought a double pulley system on Amazon to do this, surprised there are so few videos of this setup on YT I do superslow 20 second pullups so getting in reps is stupidly hard with bodyweight, and using your feet to assist isnt consistent with the assistance you add

Must make a sling with piping, and a regular padded knee seat, to get cable out of the way, and turning a semi diy project that kinda workish, into a really nice accomplishment.. it requires welding, better pulleys, possible rope rather then cable (because it handles tension between two pulleyes better).. this will make you hang more freely, with cable not tearing inbetween. Also, a ladder behind, to get into a higher start position is much easyer, then the chair, and looping. But you are on right track. (I am building this assisted pullup aswell) theres alot of details,if you eant it good, and easy to go into. I wish you good fortune with it.

Supporting from the feet is not ideal. It means you need to actively press your feet down while doing the pullups. Support from a harness would be best.

Have you tried using resistance bands instead?
@JimintheGym
@JimintheGym 6 жыл бұрын
The difficulty with resistance bands is that the tension isn't uniform. The more you stretch them the greater the tension. Pulleys are uniform. But I've been down this road many, many times. Haha! I've had to build up from zero chin ups more times than I can remember. I found that a chair worked better than resistance bands for me. But resistance bands are one way to go for sure. But again you are getting way more help at the bottom than at the top.

Jim's Home Gym Reviews very true, I guess I like the idea of a bit more help out of the hole and getting tougher through the rep....but hey whatever works for ya! I just got my cable rig set up last week. Very similar to yours! I’m going to get the titan “battle rope” rack attachment so I can tie another pulley at varying heights for low rows or flies or whatever.

Kyle Neese oh, great idea! I was just going to use extra shackles for that, or straps with the band pegs to hold them in place but that's a great idea!
@kylen6430
@kylen6430 6 жыл бұрын
Jim's Home Gym Reviews yeah I thought about the shackles, but I wanted to be able to move them easily. I might get a shackle just for the top anchor though. Right now using strap from strapworks
