A video explaining how I use drop boxes to make drop-off and collection more convenient for my customers. My system has evolved since I set up my first drop box, so I share some things I learned, and what I might do differently if I had a do-over.

Great ideas! I have a drop box that I saw from another sharpener but mine is slightly different. It's just a simple column of lockers with 6 small individual lockers. Very similar to what you would see in a school locker room. Each locker has it's own combination lock, a note pad and pen for customers to write their information on. The locker is bolted to the concrete porch and screwed into the side of my shop house. Very secure and customers really like the convenience and multiple lockers. It is also under the porch roof and there is a security light that comes on at night to keep the area illuminated. I found the locker on Facebook Marketplace. Just another idea for anyone trying to figure out an after hours solution.

Very good - thanks for sharing. Do your customers contact you before drop off to get the code for a particular locker, or how do you work that out (if you don’t mind to share)?

@@greatedgeltd I don't mind sharing at all...happy to help. Each locker has it's own combination lock. I leave each locker unlocked and the customer puts their items in and then locks the lock. I get the items the next time I'm at the shop. Some customers tell me they are leaving something and others do not. However, I have a camera that notifies me when there is movement so I can see when someone is there dropping off. It's a pretty good system that works well. I also had a large sign made with instructions for the after hours drop.

@@lyonsharpeningservice2896 Seems like a great idea, especially with 6 drop slots. I have two boxes (as shown) and occasionally have to specify someone precise drop times because a box isn’t cleared yet from a previous collection. I’m planning to add a camera as well, for the same reasons as you, and also in case of issues or queries…
